DAY 1:  Juneau/National Geographic Sea LionArrive in Juneau, Alaska’s capital city, spread out onthe banks of the Gastineau Channel at the base ofMount Juneau and Mount Roberts. Transfer todowntown Juneau and visit the Alaska StateMuseum to learn about the history and culture ofthis incredible region of the world, then, settle inaboard the National Geographic Sea Lion. (D)

DAY 2:  LeConte Bay/Thomas BayToday we explore the LeConte Glacier, one of themost active glaciers in Southeast Alaska and thesouthernmost tidewater glacier in the NorthernHemisphere. Icebergs regularly break off from theglacier face, getting caught in this shallow moraineand along the shoreline. Take advantage ofspectacular photographic opportunities, practicingtricks and tips from our certified photo instructor.Our experienced captain will read the ice and bringus as close as possible to the glacier, where we’llset out by expedition landing craft to navigateamong these surreal floating sculptures. DAY 3:  Sumner StraitNavigate the stunning Wrangell Narrows, an areainaccessible to larger ships, and then cruise into theSumner Strait, keeping watch for humpback whalessurfacing and sea otters gliding through the clearwater around our ship. Explore the coast by kayakor expedition landing craft and go ashore to tracebear trails through forests intersected by crystallinesalmon streams as you learn about the rain forestecosystem from our naturalists. Fix your binocularson the banks to spot Sitka black-tailed deer andmoose, as well as black bears, wolves, and baldeagles that frequent the shoreline in search ofplentiful salmon. (B,L,D)

DAY 4:  Wrangell IslandDrop anchor at the remote town of Wrangell,situated on the northern tip of Wrangell Island. Theindigenous Tlingit people have made their home onthis island for thousands of years. In the 19thcentury, Russian fur traders established one of theoldest non-native settlements in Alaska at the site ofpresent-day Wrangell. Spend the afternoonexploring the town, including a visit to a tribal houseand a beach famous for native petroglyphs, or setout on an optional jet boat excursion up the StikineRiver. (B,L,D)

DAY 5:  Misty Fjords National MonumentWake up this morning to catch the sunrise over thestunning cliffs of Misty Fjords National Monument,rising more than 2,000 feet above the deep bluewaters of the fjord. Watch wisps of cloud driftdown the winding waterway and drape over greenpeaks as we cruise through the mists that give thisextraordinary landscape its name. Set out byexpedition landing craft and kayak to get close tothe forested banks and the many dramaticwaterfalls cascading down the cliffs. (B,L,D)

DAY 6:  KetchikanArrive in Ketchikan, the southeasternmost city inAlaska, spread at the base of forested slopes onRevillagigedo Island. Its many monikers, from“salmon capital of the world” to “rain capital ofAlaska,” capture the spirit of this city, famous for itscolorful buildings and abundant fishing boats andcanneries. Visit the Totem Heritage Center to view aunique collection of 19th-century Tlingit, Haida, andTsimshian totem poles from abandoned villagesaround Ketchikan before transferring to the airportto connect with your flight home.
