iPhone/ iPod Touch On campus you can connect your Apple iPhone or handheld device directly to NU Smartphone - No certificate required, just your Northumbria credentials. Please Note: The unit needs to have firmware 2.1 or later installed. You can check the installed version by going to Settings->General->About on the iPod Touch/iPhone. If it says anything less than 2.1, then you should be able to upgrade it by downloading the latest version of iTunes to their PC/MAC and connecting the device. This should update it to the latest firmware.

iPhone is not connecting /Certificate warning appears

You may need to tell your iPhone to initially forget networks and then accept the certificate warning when attempting to connect to NU Smartphone. To connect to NU Smartphone, follow this process (although this may possibly differ depending on which device you are using):

• Go to the Home screen and touch Settings • Touch Wi-Fi • If your Wi-Fi is not already enabled (it says Wi-Fi Off at the top of the page), then place your

finger on the switch and slide it to the right to switch it to On • Your device should now scan for networks and show you those that it finds. You need to

select the one called NU Smartphone and then enter your Northumbria username and password when prompted. (Both your Username and Password are case sensitive)

• Touch Join. After a second or so the certificate screen will appear, touch Accept • Now return to the Home screen and then touch Safari to browse
