    methods they used?)

Analytical methods they used (how do they work)

Was the project useful in the end

    I dont want extraneous details I want a physical-intuitive

understanding of the experiments they performed and the overall

    Writing Tips

Thesis? Every papers 1st paragraph should contain a thesis

statement (organizing principle) and every paper should end with

a closing paragraph (usu. summarizing the argument in support of

the thesis). In between, you should present appropriatebackground material, and a logical, coherent argument in favor of

    your thesis statement.

See http://www.studygs.net/index.htm for helpful materialabout writing.

    Be wary ofplagiarism.

Make use of UMKCs Writing Center (even if only to have

another good writer proof read your paper).

    Plagiarism

    See http://www.studygs.net/plagiarism.htm for a working

definition of plagiarism and how to avoid it.

    Either

    paraphrase & provide a citation

    or

    quote & provide a citation.

These are the only correct options! Anything else is plagiarism.

When is it appropriate to quote vs. paraphrase?

    http://cas.umkc.edu/writingcenter/

The Writing Center at 5201 Rockhill Road is a free service

available to all UMKC students. Students may go to the Writing

Center at any point in the writing process. This can include just

talking about an assignment youve been given in order to decide

on an approach, map out a research strategy, or narrow a topic. The Writing Center is not a copy-editing or proofreading service,

but tutors can help you become a more effective editor of your

own writing. Writing Consultants generally work on an

appointment basis, so its a good idea to call ahead (816-235-1146).
