WHY WE BUILD In May, 2017 Betty and Tim Wagner moved into their new home! The Home Dedication Ceremony featured a welcome from Mayor Panto, remarks from Northampton County DCED, and rousing prayers from Pastor Davis of Greater Shiloh Church. Betty and Tim showed their dedication for stability through shelter by completing far more than the minimum 250 Sweat Equity hours that is required. Their new home was designed specifically for Tim, who requires handicap accessibility due to his use of a wheelchair. The floor plan allows Tim to access the front door, kitchen and bathroom with ease. Following the completion of their new home, Tim and Betty were not shy in showing their appreciation for Habitat in their own words: “A home is a wholesome place of ownership where there is relaxation and warmth. I can best describe it through this acronym for Habitat; Happiness Anticipated through the Bountiful blessings with Integrity, Tenacity, Acceptance and Triumphant tranquility.Project sponsors who made this all possible for the Wagner family include: Northampton County DCED, Women Build, Mr & Mrs. Robert Bennett, Apprise Software Inc., Wells Fargo, and Fox & Roach Charities. Most of these organizations donated over $10,000 to the project!

Providing homes is at the heart of Habitat for Humanity. Recently, we have done significant rehabilitation projects in Allentown and Easton. Now are excited to start some new home construction in Bethlehem! Located on Keystone Avenue the site will have four new homes, two sets of twins. This fall we will break ground on a small street extension, install sidewalks and set foundations for the homes. Each home will be 1,200 square feet which includes three bedrooms. This project would not be possible without a generous donation from a local supporter. Their support allowed us to purchase the land and establish the engineering for the site. Stay tuned for details on our Building Blitz for these homes coming in 2018. Support the construction of the homes by donating today to help us pay for the front doors, windows, or roofs. Visit our website at: Habitatlv.org/donate and look for “Every Window. Every Door.”

New  Board  Members

Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley is proud to announce some new additions to their Board of Directors. Kyle Flanigan, Murtaza Jaffer and Rafael De La Hoz were elected to the board in April 2017.

Kyle currently works at US Specialty Formulations LLC in Bethlehem as the Chief Executive Officer, focusing on management, policy, finance, and legal compliance.

Murtaza is a familiar face in the Lehigh Valley area after having graduated from Whitehall High School and Penn State Lehigh Valley. Murtaza is the owner and sales manager of Express Business Center and the project manager at Digital Matrix.

Rafael is currently an agent at State Farm Insurance after having had experience in retail banking, financial planning, and commercial lending through his previous position as Manager at TD Bank. Although Rafael currently lives in Upper Macungie Township, he originally grew up in Columbia where he graduated from Autonoma University in Manizales, Colombia.

Special  Thanks  to  City  of

Affordable  Housing  Trust

who  have  already  partially  funded  this  project!

The local real estate market picked up in the spring/summer of 2017 and here at Habitat LV we also saw an increase.

Each month we host an orientation at our office in Allentown for people who are interested in the Habitat Homebuyer Program. At the meetings in April through August we had over 25 people attend each meeting. This is almost double our past attendance. The result is an increase in the number of people applying and being accepted into the program.

We now have eight families working towards the stability and strength of home ownership. These families, like the Ramos’s pictured to the right, are all working on finishing their 250+ Sweat Equity volunteer hours.

These families include a total of 19 kids. Kids that will have a permanent place to call home, homes where indoor air quality and lead paint are not concerns. The increase in the number of Habitat Families has invigorated our crew, volunteers and Board of Directors. The home build volunteer days are a vibrant mix of homebuyers, corporate volunteers, and “core” volunteers. The positive energy is infectious! To finish eight homes, we need your support. Please take a minute this week to make a contribution via our website www.habitatLV.org/donations or by sending a check to our office at 245 N. Graham St, Allentown, PA 18109 We cannot do this work and help these families without donations from caring individuals like you!
