The backseat is the fixed area that supports the user's back to rest on.

Large enough wheelchair storage pocket enables you to carry mulple things

including; water boles, medical help, groceries purse and more.

Hand Grips are durable rubber ergonomic grips that allow users to push, pull,

turn and stop the wheelchair more easily. They also improve power and

performance of it in both indoor and outdoor environment.

There are three types of wheels front casters, pneumatic wheels and hand

rims. The hand rims are used for manual propulsion of the wheelchair. While

front castors (mag wheels) are small size, heavy and durable wheels.

The brakes are located on the front side of pneumatic wheels next to the

bottom of the seat. Breaks lock the wheels to prevent the wheelchair from

moving.

There are two movable foot plates to provide support surface on the top of

where the user's foot is resting.

The components connect foot plates to the frame. They allow the foot

Instructions for Caregivers

l Set the patient in a vertical posture in the chair. (Please don't forget to lock the chair's wheel when you are transferring the patient to and from the wheelchair).

l The footrests should be folded to the side to ensure the safety of the patient when he is getting into the wheelchair.

l After the setting of the patient, shift the footrests back to the position and be sure that they are ne-tuned to the appropriate place for the patient.

l Hold on to grips on the back of the wheelchair rmly for pushing or pulling it in the proposed route. (Must tell the patient you are going to be moving the chair).

l Always control speed according to the patient comfort as speed could be unpleasant for the patient.

l Avoid trying new moves if you are maneuvering the wheelchair for the very rst time.

6. TRANSPORTATION OF WHEELCHAIR IN A CAR

Wherever possible it is recommended that wheelchair occupant's transfer to a vehicle seat during a journey, with the wheelchair securely stored separately in a purpose made storage area.

Stowing the wheelchair in a car boot

Stowing the wheelchair is a car is very easy because it is compact, light weight and foldable that provides a practical alternative for transit purpose. You can place it to the car boot with folding armrests, footrests and other parts. For safe and easy stowing of the chair, you need to grip convenient xed parts of the chair, and lift keeping the back straight, bending from the hips and knees. In case of any doubt about lifting and handling the weight of the chair, assistance should be sought from others.

Negotiating Kerbsl Practice with an empty wheelchair pushing and pulling a wheelchair

down/up a kerb.

l Don't forget to inform user about about what you intend to do.

l The chair must be lined up at 90° to the kerb.

l It is safer to go down a kerb backwards. It requires less strength and gives a gentler ride.

l Slowly roll the rear wheels down from the kerb so that both wheels touch the road at the same time.

l When the occupant's feet are clear of the kerb, gently lower the front to the road.

l When the front casters are just clear of the kerb, push the wheelchair forwards until the casters rest on the pavement.

l Do not tip the wheelchair back more than necessary.

It is always best to avoid kerbs. If a kerb is unavoidable then the above shared precautions should be taken for a safe journey.

l Reduce speed whenever you need to change the direction.

l Don't try to force your wheelchair up any kind of slope like hills or ramps.

l Also, refrain from moving up or down curbs unassisted, whenever possible.

7. IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

l The wheel chair’s maximum weight capacity is 150 kg. Don't put weight more than its capacity.

l Adjust the wheelchair including footrest and armrest properly before getting in or up from the chair.

l Ensure that the brake is locked when getting on/off the wheelchair. Refer to the Pic below on how to use the brake.

Page 7: Wheel Chair User manual - Dr Trust...now become easier with the coming of the monitoring devices which can ... It eliminates road shock and makes rides smoother. Extra-Seat cushion

12 13

lAvoid forcing your chair down or up staircases, slopes and inclines.

lThe wheelchair is designed to operate on a pathway which is clear of all obstacles. So, don't force your way through stairways, rough terrain, sloppy pathways, and other rough surfaces.

lTo move up a step, the care giver who is pushing the wheelchair must step on the tipping bar and push downwards at the handle, such that the front wheel castors are raised onto the step. Next, pull upwards at the handles to bring up the rear wheels. Do not try to push over the steps by force.

lTo move up or down a steep slope, ensure that a care giver is around to support the wheelchair; otherwise, the chair may overturn. For a steep downward slope. The wheelchair should be turned to face up slope, and the care giver should back the chair downwards gradually.

lNever turn wheelchair while going downhill, as it could p over.

l When turning at a sharp corner, reduce speed to avoid pping over.

l Do not place the wheel chair near any sources of re, or else the backrest may be set on re, resulting in injuries.

l Do remember to engage the brake even when stopping for a short while. Make it a

habit to engage brakes.

l Always lock the brakes of the wheels when not in use or getting off from the chair.

l Do not step on the foot plate when getting off the wheelchair, or else the chair will tilt forward. If needed, adjust or lift foot rests and arm rests for transferring safely.

l When lifting a wheelchair with the patient on it, do not hold on to the handles if the chair's backrest is the foldable kind, otherwise the back rest may be damaged.

l Don't tilt the wheelchair backward until it reaches to its balance point as it could result in personal injury to the user.

lBefore moving the wheelchair, ensure that the patient has his/her feet on the foot plate.

lDo not attach anything to the wheels as this could also cause tipping and possibly lead to damage the wheelchair or result in injury.

lThe footplates should be at least 2-3 inches above the ground to permit proper clearance of potential obstruction.

8. GENERAL CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF WHEELCHAIR

A regular maintenance is important to maximize durability of the wheelchair. It also ensures the proper functionality of the chair for a long time.

Cleaning

To maintain Dr Trust Wheelchair appearance and a prolonged life lspan, it should be cleaned properly. Greasy or fatty substances can reduce the service life of the chair so, it is important to clean it properly on a regular basis. Moreover the fabric used on the chair is easy to clean. Add a small amount of washing power in warm water and apply it on the fabric with a cloth. Rinse off it with clean water and leave it to dry. Antiseptic solutions can also be applied to the fabric.

Removing Stains

Although the wheelchair is resistant to most of mild chemicals and household stains but if something is absorbed by it that may cause a permanent stain, can be exnguished by cleaning it with a soapy sponge.

CAUTIONS

Do not use harsh chemicals such as bleaching powder, wax polish, abrasive cleaner etc as the use of any of these material could harm PVC laminates and subsequently lead to cracks on the surface of chair.

lWhile transferring, do not step on or stand on the footplates as it may cause personal injury or damage to your wheelchair.

lDon't forget to engage wheel locks before transferring either using an elevator or a wheelchair lift.

lFor safe transfer always stop the wheelchair on a stable and level surface and engage wheel locks.

lAvoid placing heavy items on the back of the wheelchair as this can cause the wheelchair to tip backwards during transferring.

lYou can attach ashy items on your wheelchair when you go out at night so that people can easily see you in dark streets or other places.

9. WHEELCHAIR TROUBLESHOOTING

l It is a folding frame wheelchair, so the folding mechanism should be checked regularly for easiness of use. If you find any stiffness, apply small amount of silicon spray to alleviate it.

l If folding the wheelchair becomes difficult, the frame may be bent and you will need to check it.

l If the chair is veering to one direction, it means there is some issue in its parts alignment, these parts need to be adjusted straightaway for making seating comfortable.

l If you diagnose toe-in or toe-out issue (difference in the distance between the both front and back wheels' levels of the axles), adjustments need to be done. Usually this can be achieved by using washers to space the axle block, either at the front or the back, whichever is appropriate. Sometimes, adjustment of toe-in or toe-out can be done by rotating of the axle bar.

l If the wheels do not spin well, there could be the bearings problem. It may be loose or worn and you need to review all wheels on weekly basis.

Below are some general guidelines for wheelchair troubleshooting.

Page 9: Wheel Chair User manual - Dr Trust...now become easier with the coming of the monitoring devices which can ... It eliminates road shock and makes rides smoother. Extra-Seat cushion

lUsers should not attempt major repairs or modications.

lApproved Distributors have full Service Information and are able to advise if the chair becomes damaged, requiring major part replacement, or retting.

lIf you have any doubt about service requirements, contact to the Customer Support Department of Dr Trust. lFrequency of distributor service maintenance depends on usage level.

CAUTIONS

l If you nd excessive sideways movement of the wheels, it could be because of loosening of the nuts holding the axle. They should be checked and tightened properly if required.

l If there is excessive grinding noise and sideways movement, it may be because of worn bearing. You need to replace this part with the help of a qualied professional.

l Check and tight the nuts on the stem bolt or caster fork to restrict the free movement of the caster.

l If it is harder to push and turn the wheelchair, check its tyres' pressure. Always keep them inated to maintain the standard pressure level as over inated tyre can also cause a problem.

l Replace worn tyre immediately as it may result in poor traction and also affect the efficiency of brakes.

l Eradicate malfunctions related to brakes and all other safety features by your own or with the help of a professional.

lWe recommend that chairs are checked by the distributor at assessed intervals, according to the level of use and usage environment.

lWarranty can be affected if a wheelchair is not adequately maintained.

lUsers should note that wheelchairs retain appearance if looked after and cleaned regularly.
