What Mus t One Do to Take Refuge in the Name of Jehov ah? (Zeph . 3:12)

HH: I always say out Gods name whenever I need his protection. I also putthe name Jehovah on the front and back windscreen of my car sothat I would get protection from accidents. Because there is ascripture in the Bible that says we must take refuge in the name ofJehovah.

P: I see. Thanks for sharing your opinion with me. Many people feel thesame way as you do. The Bible mentions about some Israelites whoviewed the temple as a talisman that would protect them fromenemies. We can read about this at Jeremiah 7:3,4. Lets look upthis scripture together. Could you please read?

HH: (READ Jeremiah 7:3,4)

P:Thank you. At that time, the Israelites had rebelled against Jehovah Godand turned apostate. Yet, they felt they would still get Godsprotection because the temple is in their midst. Do you think they areright? What does the scripture say?

HH: They need to make their ways and dealings good.

P: Yes, thats why God said do not put your trust in fallacious words, sayingthe temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, the temple ofJehovah they are! That was not what would give them protection.God said they needed to make their ways & dealings good, thatmeans they had to correct their ways if they wanted to be protected.The Israelites did not do this. They continued to reject God. Insteadof obeying him and trusting in him, they sought refuge from Egypt.Do you know what happened to them?

HH: No.

P: They were taken captive by the Babylonians. And even the country theysought refuge in was swept away. Even though they had the templebut they did not receive protection because they disobeyed God. Doyou think it would be enough to say and use Gods name when werein trouble to receive his protection?

HH: I get the point of what youre saying. So how can we take refuge in thename of Jehovah?

P: We can find the answer in Psalm 91:1. Could you please read?

HH: (Read) What is this secret place?

P: This secret place refers to spiritual protection. Today, Jehovah gives hispeople spiritual protection. He does this by means of hisorganization on earth. He has provided timely warnings through theGoverning Body and congregation elders. If we heed thosewarnings, we can be protected from many problems that manypeople in the world face today.
