• Throw away, disposable products…– plastic, cardboard (Coke bottles and soup cans)

• Celebrities, movie stars, athletes…– Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Kennedy

Andy Warhol• Major innovator of the

idea of Pop Art.• Used Screen-Printing

to create images…– It was an industrial,

common means of mass production.

– It was cheap, fast and disposable (like Pop Culture).

Perhaps Andy Warhol’s best know image…

The Campbell’s Soup can.

He created many many of these

images, in singles and series.

He did however, also create sculpture.

Other artists during the same time period also created Pop style work, including much sculpture.

ROB RAUSHENBURG• Helped popularize the

idea of the “readymade”.– The found object as art

because of presentation.• The way its was shown or

“presented” to the public was more important than what it was.
