CHAPLET OF DIVINE MERCY
Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you. Even the most hardened sinner,
if he recites this chaplet even once, will receive grace from My Infinite Mercy.
– Jesus to St. Faustina (Diary, 687)

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Today, Divine Mercy Sunday, I am in Padua with our 8th graders and their parents, nearing the end of our pilgrimage to Italy. Our prayers in petition and thanksgiving for the Mercy of God will be joined with yours as we celebrate Mass at the Basilica of St. Anthony.
Today’s parish celebration of the Divine Mercy, beginning at 3 p.m., includes recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Jesus taught this powerful prayer to the Polish nun, St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, in 1935, promising extraordinary graces to all who pray it. Let us pray this beautiful chaplet often, obtaining for ourselves, our loved ones, our parish and the entire world, the infinite mercy of God.
Praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Prayed on ordinary rosary beads, the chaplet may be said at any time but is especially appropriate during the three o’clock hour, recalling the time of Christ’s death on the cross. Begin with the sign of the cross. Pray either, or both, of these optional opening prayers: You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. or: O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You! Then, on the first three beads, say the Our Father, Hail Mary and Apostles Creed. Pray the remainder of the Divine Mercy Chaplet as follows: On the Our Father Beads of each decade, say the following: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. On the 10 Hail Mary beads of each decade, say the following: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Repeat these two steps for all five decades. Then, after having completed the prayer’s five decades, recite the following, three times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. You may close with the following optional prayer: Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is love and mercy itself.
Please be sure to attend our beautiful Easter Concert presented at 7 p.m. this evening by our new St. Mary
Chamber Orchestra in the parish Lyceum, 313 Duke Street.

Living Faith A Reflection for Sunday, April 23
Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you.’” John 20:19
Are you good at making people feel welcome?
When you meet someone new, a new neighbor, a new work colleague, a new parishioner, do you make them
feel at home? Many of us can probably do a much better job at this. When we make people feel welcome, we make them feel like they are
included instead of being excluded. A simple “hello” and a smile go a long way.

ADORATION OF THE. BLESSED SACRAMENT When we think of Jesus on the cross we know how very much He loved us. Through the Blessed Sacrament, Jesus shows us how much He still loves us, for He is literally pre-sent on earth in the Eucharist. He is waiting for us to visit and tell Him all that is in our hearts and souls. He is our very best friend, the one who loves us most, and who can show us how to love and give us the spiritual strength we need to get to Heaven. Think of spend-ing just one hour per week with Our Lord. Sign-up sheets for a new session running from May through July will be in the back of the church Adoration is on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m., concluding with a Holy Hour. For information contact Mary Stier at 703.768.7167 or [email protected].

EUCHARISTIC APOSTLES OF THE DIVINE MERCY Sooner would heaven and earth turn into nothingness
than would My mercy not embrace a trusting soul. (Diary of St. Faustina, 1777)
An apostolate of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Con-ception under the patronage of Our Lady of Guadalupe, uses a small group or cenacle format to experience our Catholic Faith through the study of Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Diary of St.
Faustina Kowalska. The purpose is to spread the truth of the Real Presence in the Eucharist and to live the Divine Mer-cy message based on a deeper trust in God, a greater ability to forgive and to be merciful to others. St. Mary’s Cena-cle meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 10 a.m. in the Fr. Rankin House (314 Duke Street). Contact Lynne or Harry Dolton at 703.960.0592 or [email protected].
CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP As Christians we are asked to view all of our gifts as bless-ings from God, nurturing them during our lifetime and return-ing them to our Heavenly Father with an increase. One way we can do that is to help our own parish meet its future needs by including St. Mary Church in your will. For more information, contact the Arlington Diocesan Giving Office at 703.841.3819 or www.arlingtondiocese.planyourlegacy.org.
