What do participants have to say?

As a new supplementary school teacher, I felt I needed some guidance. I knew the material and enjoyed working with my students, but I was struggling to create focused lessons. My mentor worked with me to discover the areas where I needed help and was able to share solutions and ideas from her many years of experience, as well as provide feedback and guide me in reflecting on things that did or didn’t work. Since I began implementing the ideas and methods we discussed, there has been an increase in the students’ engagement and retention of the material.

Abbey Midelton Gancz, Congregation Rodeph Shalom

The NEXT mentor program was one of my best experiences as a Jewish educator. My mentor really helped me grow not only as a Jewish educator but as a teacher and provided me with the tools needed to be successful in the classroom. I just wish they had a program like this earlier in my teaching career.

Calvin Tesler, Temple Sinai & Jewish Community High School

Working with a mentor has markedly improved my teaching skills. Before registering for the mentor course, I had the passion and resources to teach my sixth grade students, but lacked some specific teaching skills. My knowledgeable and insightful mentor guided me and provided me with the tools and resources to help me improve my instructional skills with weekly exercises and intense discussions geared to my lesson plans. Almost immediately, I saw improvement in my class which gave me more confidence as a religious school teacher.

Rise Skobeloff, Congregation Ohev Shalom (Wallingford)

This is exactly what I needed. I got more out of this program than I ever imagined. I can cite a specific conversation with my mentor that served as a gateway for a conversation with a parent which provided new insight into a student. The true gift of this program is that it can be tailored in any way. Todah Rabbah.

Amy Goldman, Temple Sinai

[My mentor] really tailored the direction of the work based on my own personal needs; therefore I felt like my unique concerns were addressed through the flexibility of the mentorship. I feel more confident in my teaching abilities and learned skills that I will keep with me and develop for years to come as an educator!

Sara Weaner, Beth Tikvah B’nai Jeshurun
