Dare to think the unthinkable budding entrepreneurs
urgedStudents were urged to think the unthinkable at the launch of
a challenge to raise cash for good causes in Welwyn Hatfield.
On Thursday the annual Dragons Apprentice Challenge was
launched, with youngsters tasked to come up with business plans to
raise money.
Over the next six months, teams from schools across the borough
including Chancellors, Oaklands College, Onslow St Audreys, Bishops
Hatfield, and Sir Frederic Osborn schools will be looking to turn
100 into 1,000 or more.
They will be helped by mentors from a number of businesses, and
each team will be raising money for a designated charity.
At the launch event, held at the Gosling Sports Centre in WGC,
Sir Roy Gardner, chairman of Enserve Group, told the students: It
makes me really mad to hear people say the UK lacks the spirit of
innovation.
Your idea can really make a
difference. Young people often dare to think the
unthinkable.
Test yourselves, think the unthinkable.
The challenge is supported by the WHT, with editor Terry
Mitchinson among the judges.
It is sponsored by the Welwyn Hatfield Youth Partnership.
Matt Rayner, youth and sports partnership manager at Welwyn
Hatfield Council, said: Were delighted by the enthusiasm and
creativity of local business people who so generously give their
time to enable the young people to achieve their targets.
It is the second year the challenge has run, with teams last
year
collecting 9,000 for a number of charities.
Mentors this year will be from Barclays Bank, Purple Marketing,
The Welwyn Florist, MacIntrye Hudson, Child UK and Welwyn
Hatfield Chamber Of Commerce. The charities and community
groups to benefit will be the Red Rubber Ball Foundation, The
Willow Foundation, the Isabel Hospice, The YMCA and the Keech
Hospice.
