Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend (WFSCB) hosted the 5th Annual Child Care Directors Symposium at the Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz International Center. This annual event focuses on quality training activities and resources for those child care providers who participate in the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)-funded child care services program. The symposium provided “quality” professional development training and resources for child care providers to enhance the quality of services they provide to the children and families they serve in the Coastal Bend region.

WFSCB partnered with Del Mar College for The BIG Event (Booming Industry, International Trade, Government Contracting) that took place at the Del Mar College Center for Economic Development. The half-day event included presentations on industry, international trade, government contracting and a reverse trade show.

WFSCB Chair, Victor M. Gonzalez, Jr., introduced Texas Workforce Commissioner Julian Alvarez as the featured keynote luncheon presenter. As one of the lead partners, WFSCB served on the committee and assisted in the preparation and promotion of this event.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

WFSCB hosted the YOU Learn! Educator Externship Program in July for educators and employers in the Coastal Bend. This exciting one-week program provided hands-on work experience to over 75 educators from Coastal Bend school districts while creating partnerships among workforce, industry, and education to assist educators in making connections between academic skills and the workplace.

WFSCB appreciates the participation of all educators and employers involved in helping prepare today's youth shine as tomorrow's workforce!

Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend and Education to Employment Partners in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) hosted the YOU Choose! Career Expo and the Ready for College and Career Conference jointly as part of the Careers in Texas Industries Week at the American Bank Center. Special featured guest, Ruth R. Hughs, Chair and Commissioner Representing Employers for the Texas Workforce Commission launched both events at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
