come on down to PetValu, grab a lunch or some sweets, lookat some of our animals up for adoption and let's see if wecan get them fur-ever homes."
The Humane Society will bring along a few of the animalsfor residents to interact with, although many will still be leftback at the shelter, requiring homes as well.
In 2013, The Canadian Federation of Humane Societiescollected data nationwide and noted that approximately 46,578 animals were admitted into their shelters. That did not
include information in regards to other establishments thatalso shelter homeless animals, such as individual private shel-ters, rescue and foster groups. Although great strides havebeen made over the years in regards to homeless animals, itremains apparent that the number of animals without ahome is still quite staggering. This National Adoption week-end fundraiser and adoption weekend held in Weyburn willbe our local community's chance to help tackle the problem.
As part of the weekend awareness event, the HumaneSociety will also have a chili fundraiser at the PetValu store. All the proceeds raised from the chili luncheon will be puttowards the Humane Society. Chili with a bun and a bottleof water are available to purchase for $8. The meal is readyto take with you, so residents can grab a quick lunch to go,in support of the fundraiser.
Anyone who is interested in more information about theadoption program is encouraged to stop by the PetValustore over the weekend or contact the Weyburn HumaneSociety at (306)848-7387. The WHS also encourages youto visit the website at weyburnhumanesociety.ca.

Walk circumspectlyBy Linda Wegner
It was approximately four decades ago that Don Schlitz wrote "The Gambler's Song";over the next ten years Kenny Rogers, Bobby Bare and Johnny Cash recorded thosefamiliar words (well, familiar to those of us who have been around for a while). The lyrics, couched in a catchy Western melody, also contain some old-fashioned wisdom. "You gotto know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,… know when to walk away, know whento run…". Gambler or not, it makes a lot of sense.
Walking wisely isn't always as easy, or attractive, as it may appear on the surface: Valuesclash, priorities get muddled, honesty is too often compromised in favour of politics orpopularity and integrity is seduced by promises of material gain. As composer Schlitzwrote, you've got to know when to walk away, know when to run.
In this third admonition in his trinity of marching orders, the Apostle Paul admonisheshis readers: "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise…" (Ephesians5:15). In other words, be careful.
The second directive, walk as children of light, invites us to walk in the blessings of Hislove: Choose right things but always cling to the promise that through Christ God sees usas righteous.
That first instructive spoke of walking in love. Where self gratification shouts "opportu-nity", there's no safer place to run than to the protection and shelter of the love of God.In so doing we are enabled to extend grace to others.
Too often religion has approached the matter of "sin" as nothing less that God waitingfor us to fail so that He is justified in inflicting punishment. There's nothing farther from
By Helen WallerI was sitting there, minding my own business (actually
minding my own feet as I was getting a pedicure), when aconversation with a young Mom of four started as she walkedby the salon door.
She simply couldn't imagine that any Mom could get apedicure on a Tuesday afternoon. You see, she was pickingup an extra child, while I had none tugging at my leg. (Thankgoodness, as that can sure make a pedicure a lot more diffi-cult to execute.) My children are all in school, which hasnow opened a few more hours in my week. It has been over18 years since I first became a Mom, and finally the time hascome for a mid-week, no real good reason, no I'm not goingto Mexico, kind of pedicure.

A steady diet of changeIn 2013, I was uprooted from my work in Red Deer, Alberta, and relocated to Weyburn,
Saskatchewan. The transition to a new province, city, church family and church ministry hasbrought so many changes to my everyday life. In the process, I have learned some importantthings about how God uses change to transform lives.
1. Change is inevitable. God designed us all to be born, live, age and then die in about thesame way. I looked differently at 55 and 25 and 15 and 5 years old and 5 days old. To expectlife to be without change is to fight the reality that there will be change as long as you are alive.
2. Change is basically good. We often talk about growth, transformation, developmentand maturity. These are simply words describing healthy change processes. We were one wayand then by some degree of good, we changed.
3. But change can also be bad. Change in any area of life has the potential of going awryand bringing unwanted results. Many have become wary of change and struggle to keepthings the way they are no matter what.
4. Change is necessary. Ephesians 4:15-16 "We must grow up in every way into him who isthe head, into Christ." I am healthiest, and also the body of believers to which I belong, whenwe help each other grow and change spiritually. It is a gradual process of positive change.
5. Change is difficult. This brings me back to my moving experience. All the transitions Ihad to make in so short a period of time have been hard. Leaving a church I served and a citywhere I lived for over 17 years was tough. Seeing our 3 children become independent adultsand leave home gives my wife and me a sense of emptiness. Buying and selling houses, movingall our possessions and setting up in a new community was a lot of hard work!
6. But change is worth it. God has blessed me with a renewed mission in ministry andrefreshed me in so many ways by this move. At the end of the day I have to say that I amgrateful for all the change. I have learned that to follow God is to be served a steady diet ofchange.

the truth.
Your time will come....
So my response to her was "Don't hate it cuz you ain't it." Not the most eloquent use of theEnglish language but the point was made and we laughed. It made me think about all theyoung Moms out there with a baby on one hip and a screaming toddler attached to their legasking for 'just one more candy bag' at the rink canteen. Ladies, I can tell you one thing forsure. Your time will come. I promise.
There will be a time when you look around the rink lobby, only to realize your last littleone is now on the ice and there is actually enough change in your pocket left for a cup ofcoffee. There will also be a time when you won't lose an entire collection of mitts and toquesover the course of the winter (you will ALWAYS be looking for the lost sock, though). Therewill be a time when it will be socially unacceptable to wipe your child's nose for them, letalone their derriere. Most importantly, there will also be a time, when you look back at allthose crazy, chaotic years and laugh. It took me 16 years for all my children to be in schoolfull-time. Over those 16 years, there is one thing I know for sure. Each child is different. Eachchild will challenge you in different ways but each child will eventually grow up. They won'tneed you quite as much as they did when they were little and that is when your time will come.Little by little, you can sneak in a bit more time for yourself. Reading a whole chapter of FiftyShades of Grey (if you can stop at one), eating dinner without having to cut up anyone'sfood, and perhaps even getting a pedicure on a Tuesday afternoon.
Until then, enjoy them while they are young. They are doing the best they can and so areyou. So, next time you walk by and see a veteran Mom spending a little time onherself...remember just because her time has come, does not mean yours won't.
