Weston Park News No. 33 10th July 2020 A message from Mrs Coombes… This week we held a virtual Zoom meeting to welcome all of our new families who will be joining Nursery and Reception in September. Next week will be the last week at Weston Park for our Y6 children in Krasner and Monet classes. They have had a strange end to the year and have missed out on the normal end of term activities which would have signalled the goodbye to primary school. However, I am so proud of their resilience and cheerful attitudes and it has been a joy to have them back in school for these last few weeks. They have been busy signing T-shirts (in a socially distanced way) and have been making a leavers’ film with Bob as director, in place of the usual end of year show. We are looking forward to viewing this masterpiece next week. I am sure that you will have heard the news that the government has stated that all children will return to school in September. This is excellent news, and I am busy working in our new risk assessment to ensure that we can welcome the children back as whole classes on Monday 7th September. There is much to think about, and I will be writing to parents next week to give you the headlines of what this will look like in practice. Today is Adelle’s last day at work, before commencing her maternity leave. We are excited to meet Baby McCarthy when the time comes, and I know you will join with me in sending Adelle and Steve all good wishes for the birth. A reminder that the Transition Day for all children in current Reception to Y5 is on Monday 20th July. You will have received information telling you whether your child should attend in the morning or the afternoonplease check with Mark if you are unsure of the arrangements. This will be the last day for children to attend school before we break up for the summer holidays. Have a great weekend! Say Something Nice! Say Something Nice!

By Herman

Every now and then say something nice

Say it to a friend

Say it to a nurse

Say it to a daddy or a mother or a greengrocer!

Say something nice like:

Together you are my burger to my bun or

You teach me how to ride a bike or

You make me feel safe or

Playing with you makes me feel happy or

You work so hard it makes me work hard or

Your fruit turns me into a strawberry

The world is sometimes black and dark

and bad things go wrong

But a word and a smile can turn it around.

The glistening sun shiners on turquoise sea as night turns into day. The sails of the fishermen’s boat goes up as the tropical birds begin to sing their sweet morning lullaby. The golden light blazes through the window of the nipa hut surrounded by the ripe mangos in the mango trees. The children of the village splash around in the sea as their mothers go to the market buying water-melon, pineapple and mango.
