- parents and spectators (RTP’s)

Dealing with the ‘RTPs’
• What are RTPs?
• Respect...is it just for the referee’s?

• Respect Handshake – create a ‘ Respectful’ environment before kick off
• Encourage your referee to deal with RTPs – the managers are being told!

Spectators and parents/carers
I will;
• Remember that children play for FUN
• Applaud effort and good play as well as success
• Always respect the match officials’ decisions
• Remain outside the field of play and within the Designated

• Remain outside the field of play and within the Designated Spectators’ Area (where provided)
• Let the coach do their job and not confuse the players by telling them what to do
• Encourage the players to respect the opposition, referee and match officials
• Avoid criticising a player for making a mistake – mistakes are part of learning
• Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting, or abusive language or behaviour

I understand that if I do not follow the Code, any/all of
the following actions may be taken by my club, County FA, or

I may be;• Issued with a verbal warning from a club or league official
• Required to meet with the club, league or CFA Welfare Officer

• Required to meet with the club committee
• Obliged to undertake an FA education course
• Obliged to leave the match venue by the club
• Requested by the club not to attend future games
• Suspended or have my club membership removed
• Required to leave the club along with any dependents
In addition;• The FA/County FA could impose a fine and/or suspension
on the club
Young Players
We all have a responsibility to promote high standardsof behaviour in the game. As a player, you have a bigpart to play.
That is why The FA is asking every player to follow a
Respect Code of Conduct

Respect Code of Conduct
When playing football, I will:• Always play to the best of my ability• Play fairly – I won’t cheat, complain or waste time• Respect my team-mates, the other team, the referee or my
coach/manager• Play by the rules, as directed by the referee• Shake hands with the other team and referee at the end of
the game• Listen and respond to what my coach/team manager tells
me• Talk to someone I trust or the club welfare officer if I’m
unhappy about anything at my club
Young Players
I understand that if I do not follow the Code; any/all of the

I may;• Be required to apologise to my team-mates, the other team,

• Each league has a Respect Co-ordinator and moving to other Counties

Counties• Teams have regular meetings and reports to the FA• Over 90 clubs in and around Berks/Bucks (since March 09) have held a
Respect Presentation for manager’s, referee’s, coaches, parents andplayers
• Codes of conduct are being understood• Designated spectator areas are across most leagues• Referees are signed up to the programme
Referees are noticing a difference!
Sanctions
Breach 1
• For a breach of any sanction a League or County official will
Lose Respect. Lose the game.
• For a breach of any sanction a League or County official will contact your Club Secretary - Is it poor practice or misconduct?
• We will expect your Club to take the lead in dealing with the breach
• The Club will be expected to advise the League and County of the outcome

• Your Club will be requested to attend a meeting with

• Your Club will be requested to attend a meeting with
your League Respect Co-ordinator
• The Co-ordinator, with your Club, will discuss ways in
which they can work together to support and advise on
how to prevent further breaches

• Reported direct to County FA by the League

• The Club will become liable to fines and even
suspensions

What did we do?
Professional Game
• Appoint professional Respect ambassador
• Encourage the Referee to manage conflict in the game

the mascots, Ellie.....we all met at a dressing room chat pre-match. I was introduced, DRFC asked me to talk for a short time about Respect. I asked a few of them what they understood about it and Ellie shot her arm in the air and said “.......
