From the Principal… Welcome back to term four. An enormous thank you to our hard working ArtFest committee, who are so busy with the many things involved in making the event so successful. Year Once Dance Performance

Last Tuesday, the Year One Dance Group travelled to Katoomba High School to represent Wentworth Falls PS at the Upper Blue Mountains Dance Festival. It was a big day for our students beginning with a bus trip to Katoomba High for a dress rehearsal followed by a night performance in front of a sold out audience. The students met Mrs Salins and Mrs Parker at the high school, in the evening, and headed straight to the green room for a quick splash of face paint to complete the amazing costumes created by the talented Mrs Partington. Finally, it was time to take to the stage and perform their dance ‘Try Everything’. Not only did they look spectacular with their beaming smiles and vast array of costumes including birds, rabbits and foxes but they also performed exceptionally well and made all of us at Wentworth Falls PS extremely proud. A big thank you to all of those involved behind the scenes, including Ms Mitchell for assisting the dance group at the dress rehearsal, Mrs Ryan for the collection and organisation of notes and money and Mrs Salins for all of her wonderful work this year. Also, Mrs Partington, who although is currently on maternity leave, somehow managed to choreograph a dance as well as make costumes and come in each week for practise, thank you! Finally, to the parents/caregivers of the students, thank you for your continuing support this year and for the enormous applause that the students were met with after their dance, they were delighted! P & C NEWS

Garden Working Bee: THIS Sunday 22nd October 9am – 1pm We will be tidying up the gardens for Artfest - weeding, pruning and planting. And even a bit of painting.

NEW school murals for pebblecrete wall The P & C and Mrs Packer have an exciting new mural project to brighten up some of the outdoor spaces in our school. Mrs Packer has been collecting students’ drawings of our school totem, the lyrebird, the four birds from our school houses and local wildflowers since last year. The very lovely and generous Blackheath artist Jenny Kee has helped us collage a collection of the drawings together into a series of 5 murals to go on both sides of the free standing wall of the pebblecrete. We will start painting the murals at ArtFest by blocking in the coloured area. We will be looking for parent volunteers to help paint at ArtFest and beyond.

Clothing Pool Thank you to the parents and carers who have been supporting the clothing pool through your purchases this year. Seeking quality donations Has your child has outgrown their uniform? Is it in good condition? Could the uniform be: re-sold or would you buy it, if the item was for sale at the clothing pool? If clothing items are just out-grown items in your cupboards, please consider donating your clean items to the clothing pool. We will sell them! We’re unable to accept items that have holes or are threadbare (and it also creates extra work for our volunteers to dispose of unwearable clothing). Where to send unwearable items Did you know that pre-loved clothes can be recycled into other items? At Council’s Katoomba Waste Management Facility, clothing is recycled by The Smith Family. If items are still wearable but not ‘sellable’ in Australia, they will be shipped to South Pacific nations. If clothing is not wearable the fabric will be recycled into rags, felt underlay for carpeting and filler for punch-bags. Not all charity shops accept un-wearable clothes, so please check with individual charity shops before donating. The Smith Family clothing bin at Katoomba Waste Management Facility accepts wearable and holey/worn clothes. If you have any unwearable clothing items (including school items), consider sending items to a charity that can benefit from them. Opening times for Clothing Pool during Term 4 Day: Wednesday Time: 8:30 -8:50am Where: inside foyer of classroom 1D Clothing Pool is cash only.

Raffle: Tickets have been sent home with students this week and extras are available

from the office. Look at the end of the newsletter for a list of the amazing prizes on offer this year, including a luxurious stay at the Emirates One & Only, Wolgan Valley. Students also have the chance to win prizes for the most tickets sold in junior and senior classes and for the class that returns the most tickets sold or unsold. At $2 a ticket and with a sensational prize list it should be an easy sell this year!

Volunteers: We need you! Volunteers are what makes Artfest happen and be so success-

ful for the school community. A note has gone home with a list of the many ways and times you can have fun and volunteer to help over the Artfest weekend. Get in early to get a time-slot with friends and in your favoured area! Contact Kathryn on [email protected] or on 0439661972 or return the note to the office.

Kids’ Activities Space: Craft material donations WANTED! Over the Artfest weekend kids

will be welcome at the craft space (held in front of Mrs Haynes' room) for a gold coin donation. In the craft space they will be able to join the rock painting craze (check out Facebook pages "NSW rocks" or "Blue Mountains NSW rocks") by painting a design on a rock. There will also be a craft makerspace where kids can use their imagination and a choice of recycled materials to design, make and decorate a creation of their own. Prizes will be given across the weekend for imaginative, fun and brain-exploding craft creations on themes to be announced in the next newsletter. Watch this space!

If you have any recycled materials - small cardboard boxes, tubes, plastic, or fabric at home that could be donated for this makerspace, please bring it in to school and leave it in the cardboard box just inside the library door.

Our next P & C meeting is on Monday 20th

November at 7pm in the school library. ALL welcome – that’s anyone and everyone.
