Therapeutics PLUS is a learning programme for healthcareprofessionals developed by Prescriber and the Medway School of

Pharmacy in association with Pfizer. This platform is aimed primarily at non-medical prescribers, but will be relevant and of value to all healthcare

professionals. The programme is designed to support their continuingprofessional development as an extension to the qualifying coursework. Each module covers an area of therapeutics and includes case studies andsuggestions for extended CPD activities.

Each module is followed by a series of multiple-choice questions, which aremarked automatically, and a certificate is provided on successful completion ofeach module. Following successful completion students can take a furtherassessment to gain Masters credits from the Medway School of Pharmacy.

The programme intends to cover a broad range of subject areas and newmodules will be rolled out over time. Modules available for study or indevelopment include:

Neuropathic PainLearning outcomes:

• To understand the definitions, causes and epidemiology of chronic pain.

• To be aware of the presentation and assessment of neuropathic pain.

• To understand the pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategiesfor treating neuropathic pain.

Smoking CessationLearning outcomes:

• To understand the harmful effects of smoking and the benefits of cessation.

• A detailed knowledge of the evidence base supporting pharmacologicaland non-pharmacological therapeutic interventions used in the holisticmanagement of smoking cessation.

• To understand the structure of the lungs and the derivation of measuresof lung function.

• To be aware of the causes of COPD and its effect on lung function.

• To be familiar with current clinical guidance on the management of COPDand the properties of the drugs most widely prescribed, and place this inthe context of local clinical practice.
