Writing / Understanding the World: Victorian seaside holidays

Today we are going to be thinking about seasideholidays a long time ago. This is Queen Victoria. She was the queen over 100 years ago. This wascalled the Victorian times, because of her name.

Seaside holidays were very different then, butsome things were the same as our holidays today.

Start by watching Mrs Rich’s video, where she willtalk about the pictures on the next few pages:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvtKh5QUw_AThis lasts around 20 minutes.

Then, we would like you to write about seasideholidays in Victorian times. There is some paper towrite on and a page with Mrs Rich’s modelledwriting. This should take 30 minutes.Queen Victoria

Most Victorians would go to a beach in our country.

Now we might go to a different country for a seaside holiday, because we have big planes to get there.

People wore long clothes on the beachand had umbrellas to keep cool. Horsestook people into the sea in little huts onwheels called bathing machines. Theyliked to look in rockpools and buildsandcastles. They ate ice-creams.

In September you will be in Lemur Class! This week we would like you to do some very specialwriting and drawing for your new teacher, Mrs Janman and your new Teaching Assistant, MrsCallaway.
