OPPORTUNITIES • This project will provide a main greenway trail that is a

permanent part of the Mecklenburg County Greenway Program.

• This effort is a public-private funding partnership with NCDOT.

• Little Sugar Creek Greenway will provide a direct link between connecting local residential areas - Queens University Sports Complex & Conference Center, Marion Diehl Recreation Center, Park Road Park, and Huntingtowne Farms - to a growing system of existing greenway trails.

Page 10: Welcome to the Information Session for Little Sugar Creek ...charlottenc.gov/Projects/Documents/LSCGTyvolaHFP... · 21-04-2014  · •Active Transportation • Linear Public Park

CONSTRAINTS • Cost associated with the challenging topography will may require reconsidering some bridge crossings.

• CDOT will need to be directly involved in the underpasses at Tyvola Road and Archdale Drive.

• The trail through Sugar Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant will be coordinated with CMUD.

• Coordination of trail construction with Park South Station segment will be important.

• There is a deadline that must be monitored concerning the beginning and completing construction by the funders.

Greenways and Safety

• Greenway trails have had the fewest issues among Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation amenities.

• A 2004 study by UNC Charlotte on our greenways found that greenways do not increase crime and, in some instances, crime is slightly reduced.

• Crime exists everywhere; there is no perfectly safe environment. Emergencies 911; Otherwise 311

• Common sense prevails- if you have valuables in your car, locate them out of sight and lock the vehicle. Avoid the trail during floods. Enjoy walking with a friend.

• Park Rangers and volunteer Park Ambassadors bike trails.

• Cyclists must have lights and reflectors after dark.
