WelcomeThe Time Is Now For Curing Blood Cancer

Thank you for supporting Cure Leukaemia. I urge you to raise whatever you can for this fabulous charity and help hasten our progress towards eradicating this disease in our lifetime.

World-class clinicians and scientists based at the Centre for Clinical Haematology (CCH) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the University of Birmingham are driving forward groundbreaking new therapies and saving lives in the process.

By delivering world first clinical trials to leukaemia patients who have exhausted standard treatments these trials are not only saving lives, but they are they are also contributing to our understanding and treatment of blood cancer across the world.

Cure Leukaemia plays a pivotal role in this process by funding specialist research nurses to administer these pioneering therapies. Without the specialist research nurses to ensure patients are constantly monitored and cared for; these trials would not run and patients would miss the opportunity to access potentially life-saving therapies.

Whilst great strides have been made since the CCH was opened in 2006 the fact remains that too many people still die from leukaemia and without additional investment, patients will continue to miss out on accessing life-saving therapies.

Excitingly, an opportunity has arisen to dramatically increase the capacity of the CCH to establish a Birmingham Institute of Haematology (BIH) to build on this track record of success.

This important project will require £3million of additional funding and will double the Centre’s capacity for research nurses positions, clinical trials and patients treated. This will not only hasten progress towards establishing effective treatments for all blood cancers within our lifetime but also immediately increase the number of lives saved in the process.

The benefits from establishing the BIH are immensely exciting but without additional funding this process will take longer so I urge you to do whatever you can to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia. Every single donation will help whether you are running 26.1 miles or baking cakes at your local village festival.

On behalf of the patients and everyone associated with Cure Leukaemia I would like to thank you for fundraising for the charity. Every donation contributes to helping save lives and will help us make what was once a dream, a reality. We will not stop until we Cure Leukaemia.

Yours sincerely,

Professor Charlie Craddock CBECure Leukaemia Co-Founder

BrookeLet’s meet

Hi everyone; thanks for supporting this wonderful charity! I might not be here now if it wasn’t for Cure Leukaemia. In the summer of 2013 I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and my world turned upside down. I was looking forward to my 18th birthday and taking my exams but suddenly my life was put on hold.

Thankfully, the treatment I received at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Cure Leukaemia’s wonderful research nurses has meant I am now in remission and loving life again!

The nurses inspired me so much when I was ill and that’s why I am now training to become a nurse myself!I am lucky. I lost great friends my age along the way so we must raise vital funds to stop blood cancer once and for all. I raised £5,000 in 2014 racing one of my dad’s cars and I’d urge you all to be creative and do what you can to help Cure Leukaemia.

Thank you,Brooke

AdamLet’s introduce

Thank you for fundraising for this life-saving charity. I was diagnosed with blood cancer when I was 21 years old. It was a huge shock for me because I was a fit, healthy young man who was starting a career in firefighting.

I was used to saving others but suddenly I needed someone to save me.Thankfully, I received treatment from Professor Charlie Craddock CBE and I am in complete remission 16 years on! I will do anything to fundraise for Cure Leukaemia, I’ve even run with my colleagues on a human hamster wheel! But remember, every penny counts, it doesn’t necessarily need to be crazy challenges like mine!

I’m only here because of people like Charlie and charities like Cure Leukaemia. Please do what you can to raise money for this wonderful charity so many more people can hear the three amazing words I heard all those years ago, you are cured.

you to

Thank you,Adam

In Your CommunityFundraise

Here are some of our suggestions if you’d like to organise your own event. Targets don’t have to be huge and daunting. Raise £100 and you will be automatically entered into our ‘100 club’ and the most creative ideas may even win an award! Every penny can make a difference.

Car WashPick a sunny day, tell everyone you know and set up your very own car wash. Everyone will love you for their shiny motors and will probably give generously!

RafflesAsk your local shops for prizes as you’d be surprised how generous businesses can be when supporting a great cause. The better the prizes the more tickets you’ll sell!

Summer BBQOur weather might not be the most reliable but we still love our barbeques. A great way to raise funds and socialise at the same time… weather permitting!

Cake SaleFor all the budding Mary Berrys out there get your wooden spoons at the ready and bake to raise funds at local fetes or village halls.

SkydiveAre you brave enough? Conquer your fears and take a leap to help people battling this terrible disease.

Fancy DressEveryone loves fancy dress! Whether you’re out partying with friends or dressing up for a day in the office – be as creative as you can!

Blood Cancer

Awareness Month

Wear it RedEncourage your colleagues or classmates to wear just one red piece of clothing or even a full red suit to work and donate £1 to do so.

It’s a fun way to raise funds and everyone can do it together. If you work for a big company or attend a big school then you could raise a

fantastic figure for the charity. Cure Leukaemia’s official ‘Wear Red Day’ in September will be

announced every year so look out for the date and get involved!

Fines JarThis is a really easy and fun way to raise

funds at work or even at home! Give everyone a ‘buzz’ word, action or phrase during September and every time they

do it they need to contribute to the fines jar. 30 days is a long time so you might be surprised how much you could raise

and laughs are guaranteed! The Cure Leukaemia staff do this every year

and it’s one of the easiest ways to raise vital funds.

SchoolsIf you have children, grandchildren, nieces,

nephews or godchildren why not encourage their school to take part in Just One More? Schools

are always very keen to engage in this way with their pupils, especially when it is for a great cause. Contact us and we could even arrange an assembly talk from one of our nurses! It is a great way to educate the next generation about

the disease and encourage them to dream up fun fundraising ideas.

Give it UpThroughout the month why not give up one of your regular treats and donate the cost to the campaign? Do without your daily latte, chocolate bar, bus fare, takeaway or after work drink for 30 days and donate to help people battling this dreadful disease. Do you think it would be too hard?

Think about the patients and how your small sacrifice will be helping them and it won’t seem as difficult.

£0September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and each year our aim is to encourage our supporters to raise a combined £40,000 to fund a specialist research nurse like Donna (pictured) for a year. Our Just One More campaign message remains simple – small donations from many, can make a huge impact.

FundraisingTips We know fundraising can seem daunting but it really doesn’t have to be

and we are here to help you! Here are our ten best hints and tips to help you reach your target. Remember, £100 can make a big difference and you’ll be surprised how generous people can be if you just ask.

1 Start early!Get ahead of the game and start your plans as early as possible.

Begin by telling your friends and family what you’re doing and why you’re supporting Cure Leukaemia - maybe they can join in or help you fundraise?

2 Set up a fundraising pageYou can create your fundraising page in less than a minute and personalise it to your liking! Not only this, but you don’t have to chase anyone for money as they transfer all donations to Cure Leukaemia.

3 Show a videoVisit our YouTube channel and inspire your family, friends and colleagues with our short videos on why their support is vital. Here they will learn how the money you raise will directly benefit blood cancer patients. 4 If you don’t ask...

You’ll find that people who know you (and even those who don’t) are keen to support your fundraising efforts...remember, the worst they can say is “no”! The personal approach works best, talk to people in person or email them individually.

7 Get in your local pressContacting your local media, such as the local paper, TV and radio stations, could be a huge boost to your fundraising. They are always looking for local stories and your fundraising plans might be the perfect fit!

9 Thank everyone!A simple ‘Thank You’ to everyone who donates is an easy way of showing your appreciation! If they would like an official ‘Thank You’ letter from the charity, let us know and we can organise this for you.

5 Spread the word! The more people know about you and your event the more inclined they will be to give. Promote your event with some of our fundraising posters, plus the internet is such a powerful tool – use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

10 Gift AidWhether you’re collecting donations through a fundraising page or sponsorship form, ask all UK taxpayers to add Gift Aid to their donation. This means we will receive 25p extra from the government for every pound donated, at no extra cost to them!

8 Keep people up to dateIt’s important to keep your supporters up to date, let them know how your planning is going and where you are with your targets. Photos are a great way of keeping people up to date and inspiring them!

6 Match fundingMany businesses love to support their employees’ fundraising efforts so make sure you ask your employer if they have a matched giving scheme. This could make a big difference by doubling the money you raise!

How Your Donations HelpEvery penny you raise for Cure Leukaemia will go towards funding our dedicated team of specialist research nurses. We need to fund our current nurses but we also need to add to the team to treat more patients, save more lives and continue progress towards a cure.

One nurse can treat up to 80 patients a year and lead up to 5 world first clinical trials at a time but we need your help to make sure they can continue their life-saving work.

Every £100 you raise can leverage £1000 in potentially life-saving drugs for patients, so every penny can help save a life.

Regular Giving and the Need for More Funds“Patients are potentially missing out on lifesaving treatment as we simply do not have enough specialist nurses to deliver enough clinical trials.

It is deeply frustrating that patients are being turned away and miss out on these important and potentially curative drugs.

Please consider a regular donation to Cure Leukaemia and help our planning, so much more can be achieved. A donation of just £10 a month would raise £120 a year and every penny would go towards helping save lives right now.”

Let’s give it up and help save a life

The UK spends over £700 million on coffee each year – imagine how that could be used to help beat leukaemia? Sacrifice your daily latte and pop the money saved in your box – it will soon add up!

The average cost of a glass of beer or wine in the UK is £4. If you gave up one of these a week you would raise over £200 for Cure Leukaemia

in a year!

We chomp our way through over 600,000 tonnes of chocolate a year in the UK! Give up your daily chocolate fix

and by giving a few pounds you may lose a few as well!

We eat over ten billion bags of crisps a year in the UK. Give

up your favourite potato snack and add the savings to the box. Remember you are helping save

lives with every donation.

We understand that time is precious and you might not have time to run, cycle, bake or organise your own fundraising event, so perhaps you could help Cure Leukaemia by giving something up every day or week and donating the money saved?

In this pack you will find our handy £100 collection boxes to keep in your kitchen, on your desk at work or even your local pub! Why not give up your weekly treat and donate to Cure Leukaemia? Every £1 can help save lives. Get your family, friends and colleagues involved too by requesting additional boxes - you might be surprised how much you could raise!

This is the easiest way to join our ‘100 Club’. Every £100 raised for Cure Leukaemia is worth £1000 in potentially

life-saving treatments for blood cancer patients. By simply giving up a few

treats you could help save a life.

Set yourself a challenge to fill your box more than once in a year! Raise £100, send the funds in and we will thank you on social media, add you to our ‘100 Club’ league table and send you a certificate. The most successful and creative

fundraisers could be nominated for our ‘100 Club’ awards!

Want to find out more? Get in touch with the Cure Leukaemia team, they are looking forward to hearing from you!
