Project overview:
Abbotshall Community Garden – Orchard trail
We are looking to plant an orchard of miniature stock fruit trees, these will be situated along the perimeter of the playing field. This will allow us to create a trail in order for people to walk, run or cycle around the boundary of the site.
These small trees do not grow more than 5ft tall, which makes them easy to prune and more of their energy goes into producing fruit.
We can plant lots of different varieties in a small space, including; apples, pears, cherries, quinces, apricots and plum to name a few. We already have 2 existing olive trees in our main garden.
The orchard will benefit many different groups from the community including; the cubs, scouts, youth and mature groups.
Our gardening club and Young at Heart at the HLC will be initially planting and taking care of the trees in order for them to thrive. Each tree will be labelled so that everyone can identify each specimen.
We also intend to erect a pergola on which to grow wine producing grapes. We intend to make the orchard accessible to all so that the benefits are felt by all members of the community.

Project overview:
Stay & Play sessions for children under the age of 5 at Abbotshall HLC.
These sessions will be managed and run by local volunteer parents and carers. In fact we have
been running the new improved stay and play for 5 weeks and we have seen numbers attending
rocket (from 0 to 30 children last week!). We’ve had terrific feedback from those attending so
there is definitely a demand.
We provide a fun safe environment for both children & adults. With an emphasis on creativity
and outdoor play. Each session there will be a creative craft project for children and carers to
work on together and a healthy snack will be provided for every child.
Playing helps children with their development and improves their health and wellbeing. Children
learn through play, they develop new skills, and make local friends.
Parents and carers will also meet others in a friendly environment, support one another by
sharing parenting skills and experiences.
All parents and carers will be made to feel welcome in the group. We ask for a small voluntary
donation which will cover some of the craft supplies.
We want to make the session as environmentally low impact as possible and as such will use
recycled materials for crafting as much as we can and have asked for and received donations of
second-hand toys from the community.
However in order to maintain the quality and keep up with the growing numbers there are a few
things for which we'd be very grateful for funding (Children's furniture, fancy dress, musical
instruments, art supplies and play mats).
Sadly Abbotshall HLC is under threat of closure. We believe that providing this service for local
parents and carers will have an integral role in engaging the community and encouraging
volunteers and creating a general buzz around Abbotshall, helping to secure its future.

Abbotshall Road Youth Club.
The aim is to prove a youth club on a Friday evening between 4.00 – 8.00pm. During these times
young people will have access to the studio and outside space of the Abbotshall Healthy Lifestyle
Centre. The age range will be from 8 – 14 years old.
There will be a project co-ordinator to ensure things run smoothly but it is intended that the
young people become involved in the running of the club and take responsibility for what goes
on. This is intended to give them a sense of belonging, giving a safe place for them to meet and
socialise, prevent isolation for those who go home and do not have the opportunity to mix
outside of school. A qualified coach will run sports and keep fit sessions on a regular basis giving
participants a chance to develop skills while getting fit.
The young people will be encouraged to take up training and act as volunteers for the centre
supporting other projects that take place as well as developing the Youth provision.
The young people will be encouraged to develop their own forum giving them the responsibility
for developing their own program of activities. They will be producing their own policies and
procedures and managing their finance.
A representative from the forum would be asked to join the Abbotshall Healthy Lifestyle
Management Committee to assist them to shape services for the future especially those for
young people.

Project overview:
Tiny Ballers Soccer School
Tiny Ballers Soccer School is an early childhood development sports club that will provide 2
sessions of football coaching to toddlers and infants every Saturday morning at Abbotshall
Healthy Lifestyle Centre.
Tiny Ballers will not only aim to improve children’s football skills but also to serve as a platform to
help develop social skills, improve emotional control, and build self-confidence in a fun and
friendly environment during the critical phase of early childhood.
All sessions will be designed using the Long-term Player Development (LTPD) 4-corner Model
created by the FA, to promote development in 4 key areas; technical, psychological, physical and
social.
The first session for the 2-5 year old age group will comprise mainly of mini-games designed to
slowly introduce toddlers to the basic skills needed to play football. These games will focus
primarily on building on the fundamental technical skills of football such as control, dribbling,
passing and shooting. Children will be challenged to listen effectively and follow instructions with
some games requiring a degree of teamwork and competitiveness.
The second session for the 5-7 year old age group will introduce more advance skills and
concepts and focus on increasing players understanding of the game in a match situation.
With funding we would look to recruit a young volunteer from the local community as a support
coach, purchase equipment needed for the sessions (bibs, footballs, cones, etc.) and design, print
and hand out flyers to promote Tiny Ballers to the local area.

Catford Film Making Workshops
Catford Film is planning to set up some sustainable, structured free film training to help nurture local talent and feed an interest in the creative side of cinema. This will allow people to not only learn how to put a film together, but to actually be part of a production team moving through the whole film development process.
We intend to feed local creatives with the knowledge and confidence to take steps towards making their first film, for existing film makers to firm up their knowledge and for anyone with a passing interest in how films are made to find out more.
The training will be open to the local community and beyond, feeding an interest in writing and processing your ideas to a finished film.
Our aim is for people with an interest in making film to connect with and learn from people already working in the industry. This will allow local wanna-be film makers the opportunity to network with the wider film community.
We will promote the events with a strong perception that Catford is at the centre of bigger cultural initiatives in South East London, and to generate an interest in film as an art form. It will excite a wider appetite for creating more film related projects in Lewisham and, along with other film events we are involved in, help our area to be considered for wider film initiatives by outside film related companies and the general film making community.

Project overview:
Rushey Green and Holy Cross Primary Schools have endured long-term and increasing traffic risks
during schools opening and closing times. Parents are now ever more dependent on cars and the
Culverley Green primary schools lag behind in improvements to child welfare and road safety
outside of schools.
Children cannot see past the heights of double parked vehicles during school drop offs and pick-
ups; vehicles park too closely to the school exit gates with no supervisory attendant for road
crossing. Double parked vehicles create a specific risk of collision and accidental injury for
children, obstructing thoroughfare traffic and impeding moving vehicles which speed up to
escape the traffic blockade.
The Culverley Green air traffic pollution exposes young developing children to asthma and lung
disease. Nitrogen Dioxide levels in air pollution outside Rushey Green Primary School, recorded
in 2015 at a risk level below acceptable European Union recommendations for safe breathing for
children at 36 parts per million

Council Parking Enforcement has not yielded a solution for the dual risks of vehicular danger and
the silent chronic damage to young lungs.
We ask you to support our primary schools’ children by voting for us to:
1. Fund schools road safety banner (designed by children in the schools of Rushey Green & Holy
Cross Primary Schools): 3metre wide external all weather proof banners reminding parents to
think before they park and turn off engines. This strategy educates parents to be healthy role
models for their own children.
2. Create a schools traffic safety funding pot for schools’ Parent Teacher Associations/
organisations to explore support through recruiting voluntary ‘lollypop ladies’ and schools
crossings traffic monitor! Thank you!

A 6-week Confidence and Life skills programme for children.
Many children struggle with issues such as low self-esteem, stress and anxiety, emotional
resilience problems (sometimes caused by bullying) which can often lead to social anxiety, body
confidence issues and lack of social skills.
This programme will help children between the ages of 7 and 12 to teach them skills and tools
that they can use to increase their confidence, self-esteem, resilience and help them to manage
negative thoughts and emotions in a fun and proactive way.
Children will learn ways to overcome social anxiety, boost their ability to communicate
confidently and be understood. In addition, this can help to improve their school work and their
grades. They will come away with strategies to help them reduce stress and anxiety.
Children will learn tools for life and the strategies they will gain can be used at home, school or
anywhere they need them. This will help them to approach life with a balanced and resilient
mind-set.
Parents will also be supported with regular communication and given advice and tips throughout
the programme. The improvement each child has made will be evaluated and recorded at the
end of the 6 week programme.
The funding will be used to reach families on lower incomes that would not normally be able to
pay for their children to have coaching or attend this type of club. It will give us the opportunity
to run the project for free, in order to help those children.

Gazebos to use for outdoor events
The Corbett Residents Association launched in September 2010 to bring together local
residents for community activities and events, allowing neighbours to get to know each
other and share interest.
The CRA aims include providing a network for neighbours to meet and get to know each
other.
Hold community events e.g. annual firework display, quiz evenings, Easter Egg Hunt plus
lots more. Identifying vulnerable residents to offer support and acting as an advocate to
improve the local neighbourhood parking, fly tipping and anti-social behaviour etc.
We want to purchase 4 large pop up gazebos to use for outdoor events. To be used at
Healthy Lifestyle Centre, Corbett Community Library, street events, Christmas markets
outdoor tea parties and picnics etc.
We would like to be able to put on more outdoor events throughout the year for the
community. To be able to purchase 4 gazebos will enable us to do so and give those who
attend these events shelter from the sun, wind and rain. A place for all ages to be
outdoors and meet local neighbours.
The CRA would also loan these gazebos out to other local groups to ensure we all work
together and share resources.

Project overview:
Improving the Green
In this Project our main aim is to open up the accessibility of the Green to a wider age group. It is
the largest public green space within the Catford South ward. (The two parks are in our
neighbouring wards.)
It is situated in large residential area which contains a mixture of privately owned properties,
landlord properties, HMO’s, social housing, and care homes.
We have a high number of residents living in the area in the 65+ age group as well as many
families with young children. It is these two age groups who would benefit from having a bench
to sit on. Our older residents enjoy the Green but are unable to take full advantage of it as there
is nowhere to sit apart from the grass!
How much nicer would it be for them, to be able to come in and sit on the bench and enjoy the
green space and rest before resuming their walk. A bench would also be beneficial for parents to
sit on while their pre-school children can play especially for the many flat dwellers that we have
in the area.
Lastly having a bench would offer us an ideal opportunity for using it as a spring board for our
more ambitious project for having railings restored around the Green.
Showing the Green as an area that is accessible and used by all members of the community
would make us a more attractive project to any railing sponsorship funding.

Catford Connects Older people
This project brings together three differing church halls in Catford South to deliver in partnership
weekly activities for older people including Tai Chi at St Andrews church hall, a fellowship
meeting on a Thursday at Brownhill rd. Baptist church and a seated Yoga class at Hartley Hall,
Holy Cross church.
The activities on offer would improve health and wellbeing and reduce isolation. The project will
connect with other local providers and invite organisations to share information such as
Mindcare, Carers Lewisham and Age UK.
The groups would be on different days so enabling people to access some or all and each one is
on a good public transport route and the venues are fully accessible. Each of the activities would
be for an hour and a half and would incorporate a social element with refreshments giving
people a chance to strengthen relationships.
The project will connect with the wider “Bring me Sunshine holidays at home” project which will
be delivering 12 larger events throughout the year.
The project gives opportunities for volunteering and each of the volunteers and deliverers of the
project will receive a Dementia Friends awareness session ensuring each of the sessions are
dementia friendly. Volunteers would be encouraged to cross over to each of the sessions
creating a more cohesive team of community connectors.
The project has scope to further develop its partnership with other initiatives helping to bridge
the gap in social care in an area which has a large population of people over 65.

Lewisham Tigers FC Summary in support of application for funding from Catford South
Assembly Purpose of the funding:
Oh Lewisham Tigers has grown with now 109 members, the club has grown beyond our dreams
(and of our football development plans). The success of the club in the Catford South Area has
been through the relationships the club has drawn within the community.
With the growth of Lewisham Tigers having an impact on the young children and volunteers of all
ages who attend the Abbotshall Healthy Learning centre, the clubs training and match home
ground.
The club has become heavily involved within the community working with residents, parents,
volunteers and young people this is a very specific project within the clubs wider development
programme not only with the coaching young people to play football but also with the running of
the Healthy Lifestyle Centres.
With the funding we will be able to provide:
• Develop a new under 8s boys team and coach for this year/season
• Affiliation of this new team to the London Football Association (FA) and League
By joining the local community by becoming members/trustees of the Healthy Lifestyle centre,
promoting the advantages a community run asset for everyone. Sharing the equipment we

Lewisham Youth Theatres Junior Youth Theatre Performance Project 2019
what is it? A free drama & performance project for 8 to 11s from January to June 2019. Weekly
sessions at the Broadway Theatre rehearsal room on Tuesdays or Saturdays. Lead by Professional
Youth Theatre Directors a full show in the Broadway Studio at the end of the project.
Who can take part? This funding is for Catford South young people to take part. Young people from
Lewisham also take part.
How will children find out? We run FREE taster sessions in Catford South Schools. We list it on
lovecatford.co.uk Leaflets at Catford South events in the libraries & notice boards.
What will children gain?
• Creative skills – a chance to develop drama skills of course but it’s also about developing
imagination, a chance to express ideas & use thinking skills in a different way to school.
• New friends. Children from all over Lewisham take part.
• Team work & leadership skills – we always choose shows that allow everyone to shine, we
don’t have just one lead. We are working with The Horniman Museum this year.
• Improve reading, (through scripts) speaking and listening skills, (in the rehearsals & on stage).
• Pride in their performance as the show will be at the Broadway Theatre in June, shared by
family & friends.
• Chance to see a theatre performance in London as part of the project.
What happens after this project end? Once a child has taken part they will always be told about
other opportunities at LYT. And our projects are for 8 to 24 year olds. We do Technical theatre as well.

COMMUNITY CLEAN UP
This initiative is part of a wider campaign to Clean up Catford and was suggested by various
members of the Catford South community.
Our part of Catford is a great place to live, but there is a lot of fly tipping and litter dropping
which spoils it for everyone. We want to do our bit to make our community as good as it can be.
Several members already litter pick in Catford South, but we need better quality equipment and
clothing to enable more volunteers to take part.
We aim to have around 12 Litter Wardens kitted out with hi-viz jackets, heavy duty gloves, litter
bags, and ring bag holder.
We would undertake weekly litter picking tackling particular “grot spots” as well as monthly clean
ups to tackle larger areas. The Great British Spring Clean Up is happening in March 2019. We will
be taking part and have already registered to carry out a major clean up during the campaign
period.
We will share our success by regularly publishing “before and after” pictures as well as logging
the amount of bags collected on Love Catford, Keep Britain Tidy and our own websites.
The longer term aim of the Clean-up Catford campaign is to work with others to reduce the
amount of fly tipping and litter within our community and encourage the establishment of similar
groups elsewhere.
Please do support our campaign which is entirely run by volunteers to benefit everyone who
lives in or visits our part of Catford.

TTT - Third Thursday Time
Priorities Addressed:
Organisation:
Project overview:
£
Third Thursday Time is a monthly evening drop-in held at Hartley Hall in Catford, open to
all over 16’s in the local area. We provide companionship, a listening ear and activities
aimed at promoting mental well-being for people with lived experience of mental health
issues, carers and anyone else who would like to join us in a friendly, accepting and relaxed
environment.
Our café offers drinks and snacks, arts & crafts, a book swap and board games, and we have
regular singing sessions, massage available and a quiet space. Each month we also hold an
activity session aimed at promoting mental well-being – for example, mindfulness, Tai Chi,
yoga or Zumba.
Volunteers have DBS clearance, and some have Food Hygiene and Introduction to First Aid
training, and we have all attended mental health awareness training. Session leaders are
qualified in their own field. Most volunteers have experience of living with mental health
issues or as carers.
We collect feedback and suggestions after each session, and are hoping to provide more
activities as requested by our users, although we are not subsidised and donations do not
presently cover costs of more qualified session leaders. Success today would make our
“wonderfully relaxing, fun, enjoyable” evenings more responsive to what our users want.
If you, or someone you know, would benefit from joining us on the third Thursday of the
month, 5.30-8.30, you are welcome

The PTA of Torridon Primary School are seeking to improve the air quality and playground
environment at the school by planting a 6-foot high laurel hedge inside the perimeter fences.
At the junction of two busy roads, Torridon and Hazelbank, and surrounded by a metal fence,
with a few trees and shrubbery dotted around the perimeter, the outdoor play areas are all very
exposed to road traffic. Recent air monitoring revealed high levels of NO2 – 56.6 µg/m3
(micrograms per cubic metre) – well above the legal limit of 40µg/m3.
Short- and long-term exposure to NO2, even at levels below the legal limit, is harmful to health;
children, with developing hearts and lungs, are especially vulnerable. Concerned about the
children’s health and keen to green-up the outdoor space, the PTA consulted with Clean Air for
Catford (a local air quality group), local councillors, Lewisham’s environmental protection officer,
the head teacher, science teachers and local landscaping companies to find out the best course
of action. Hedges have been shown to be particularly effective at absorbing air pollution in urban
areas. Air monitoring done at another local school with a well-established hedge, for example,
revealed significantly lower readings inside the playground than out on the pavement.
Pending full funding, we are thus proceeding with a multi-phase project: planting a hedge around
the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds and, in the nursery and reception areas, where space is tight,
putting up thick bamboo along the fence.
We hope you’ll support our efforts to green-up Torridon and improve the air quality for the
whole school community!

The Young at Heart Group
Based at the Healthy Lifestyle Centre, Abbotshall Road, Catford, SE6 are a group who meet every
week.
The vision was to have a place to meet people for companionship, a chat and go out on outings
together and socialise in a safe environment. There isn’t a group like this within a short walking
distance in this vicinity.
Anyone with time to spend together when lonely or needed some support and to touch base
with a group could join and come along with family, friend or neighbour – recognising that
people may retire early or through ill health or need a friend to come with them. Some people
don’t talk to anyone for days or weeks, as their families could live far away and contact is limited.
Having this group locally has been a great support to people especially as carers for elderly and or
disabled parents or partners.
We want to appeal to people of all ages. We believe that this could improve community links
and beat loneliness if we can!
With an Email address, WhatsApp group, calendar, had a museum trip, a tea dance and are
planning our own activities to host in the coming months
We urgently need a base to meet, funding for activities and events to grow the group. To hold
events - exercise classes, chair yoga, play games, walking/ reading group or professional to speak
to the group about issues like preventing falls, keeping active, Tech support for IT devices.
