Second Sunday of Advent December 10, 2017

From the Pastor

Abel CortesLarry Lucido

Bob MarrinanBrian Mitchell

My Dear Parishioners, Be Patient: Wait For Peace. This past week our readings

reminded us to seek the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, for He gives true and lasting peace. During this second week of Advent we are asked to exercise patience and wait for peace. We can actively wait through extra prayer and by living our faith. This week we can seek peace by repenting for our sins and reconciling with God and our neighbor. Letting go of anger, hurt, resentment, and hostility allows room for peace and room to grow in God’s grace.

December 12th is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Pope Pius XII declared Our Lady as the Patroness of the Americas. She is also the Principal Patroness of the Dallas Diocese. We are asked to pray for our diocese, our Cathedral Church, and for our Ordinary, Bishop Edward Burns, and for our Auxiliary, Bishop Gregory Kelly. The name “Guadalupe” is a word derived from the Aztec word for “she will crush the serpent of stone.” Pope St. John Paul II declared her “star of the first and new evangelization of America.” We ask her intercession for a continued growth in faith and evangelization of all the peoples of the Americas.

In Christ’s Peace,Fr. Guadagnoli

Pastor

During this Advent season, we are preparing our hearts to receive Jesus in the beauty and majesty of Christmas. Similarly, St. Monica Catholic Church is preparing to spread the good word of Christ to parishioners and visitors throughout the liturgical year. The financial resources needed to implement our programming and day-to-day activities is extensive.

A contribution to St. Monica provides faith formation to adults and children seeking to enter into the body of the Church, supports the expansion of ministry in our community and beyond its boundaries, and allows for future renovation and repairs to our school and church facilities. We appreciate your financial support of the work we do here at St. Monica.

There are three ways to contribute:1. Drop a contribution into the collection basket on Sunday. 2. Visit stmonicachurch.org and click on the “Give to Christ” banner image. 3. Drop a contribution by the Church Office from 9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday.

All contributions are tax deductible. In order to receive credit, please make sure your name is listed with any cash contribution. White giving envelopes are located in the back of the church for your convenience.

Guadagnoli
