What can you do• Attend your classes• Every student is allotted 8 (excused,

unexcused, unverified, or truancy) absences per semester. After 8 the students grade will be adversely affected • 9-11 Absences = 11% reduction of grade• 12-14 Absences = 21% reduction of grade• 15 or Absences = Failure of class

• Does not include ADE, PA, M, SUS, ACT, FAC, OSS, ISS

• Complete your Homework – Think deadlines

• Study every night – remember quality over quantity

Closed Campus• Florence High School is a

closed campus. • Students are not allowed to leave

for lunch, to run errands, or be off campus without a parent physically coming into Florence High School and checking out their child. Please do not attempt to call your child out of school unless he or she has a doctor appointment or court appointment that can be verified by official paperwork. A student will be treated as truant if he or she leaves campus without following the proper procedure.

college acceptance and/or scholarship awards FHS asks that this information is shared with the guidance office to post in the 2015-16 graduation announcement.• Please submit the acceptance/

Local Scholarship will be available after February 15, 2016

Graduation Information Held at the Husky Stadium at 2:00pm• Seniors report to the FHS gym by 12:30pm• As long as the graduation is held outside

there will not be a limit in attendance.• In the event that graduation has to be

moved indoors each student will be limited to a number of seats to be determined by the number of graduates.

Do not bring in coolers, backpacks, large bags, or noise makers into Husky Stadium or FHS.

Graduation Information (cont) Graduates are expected to be in appropriate

attire. Nothing is to be written on or attached to the

gowns. Gowns will not be tucked into pants. Gowns

will be worn in the manner they were designed to be worn – draped down the body and fully zipped.

Students are not to put their gown on until they line up to get prepared to walk outside.• Each student will be subject to a search before

he or she walks outside. No inflatable toys or other paraphernalia Graduates will pick up their diplomas at the

conclusion of the ceremonies. Directions will be placed inside the diploma cover. Guests will not be allowed in this area.

Florence Husky Tradition This is YOUR opportunity to set a new standard for

Florence High School Graduates. Seniors in good academic standing have the

opportunity to audition to deliver a speech at graduation on the school-appropriate topic of their choice. Students wishing to audition should prepare an original piece no more than 5-7 minutes in length.

Senior Inspirational Speech auditions will be held Wednesday May 4, 2016 • We are looking for a dynamic, creative, original and

inspirational piece, to add to our commencement program.

• Valedictorian and Salutatorian will be giving the welcome speech and farewell speech

Graduation Participation

Senior passes ALL classes. Senior has no outstanding bills or fees. Senior did not participate in a non

“sanctioned” senior prank. Senior does not exhibit behaviors that could

make him/her suspect of inappropriate behavior at graduation.

Senior attends graduation practice on May 18, 2016.

Senior adheres to all expectations set forth on graduation day.

Graduation Day Sunday, May 22nd at 2:00

p.m. Graduates are required to

be in the gym by 12:30pm.• Gowns are not to be worn at

this time. Seating for graduates will be

as follows:• Honor Cord Recipients:

• Alphabetical order

Graduation Day This will be a student-

focused graduation.• With parents to celebrate their

child's accomplishment The ceremony should last

approximately 1 – 1.25 hours.

Please be respectful of each speaker, graduate, and their families.

Graduates who are disruptive during the ceremonies will be removed.

Graduation Day Guests are asked to not

bring noise makers out of respect to all graduates.

Each graduate earned his/her spot on the floor in his/her own way and that should be valued by all guests who attend the ceremonies.

The commencement exercise is a serious academic ceremony for students, their families, and friends.

Graduation notes… Please respect the

dignity of the ceremonies. It is planned so that ALL who attend enjoy their special graduation moments.

Graduation is a right but participating in the actual ceremonies is a privilege.

Enjoy this final event as a member of the Florence High School Class of 2016!

Food For Thought You only have approximately 36

weeks of school and then the work begins – now is NOT the time to compromise your work ethic or integrity!

Colleges do require end of year transcripts and can and have rescinded acceptances due to poor senior year academic performance.

Don’t forget about scholarships. They have deadlines. It is very important that you represent yourself professionally on paper as well as in person. Have your essay proofed – make corrections – proof again – FINALIZE (proof one more time before sending it in).

Employers do request transcripts and/or recommendations based on attendance and academic performance.

If you are in need of a teacher or staff member recommendation please give that person a minimum of two weeks notice. The recommendation form is in the counseling office.
