A Mission Emphasis on The Trinity Center
Prelude “For the Beauty of the Earth” arr. Mark Hayes
Lighting of the Candles
Processional Hymn 365 “Come, thou almighty King” Moscow
1. Come, thou almighty King, help us thy Name to sing,
help us to praise, Father whose love unknown all things created own.
Build in our hearts thy throne, Ancient of Days.
2. Come, thou incarnate Word, by heaven and earth adored;
our prayer attend: come, and thy people bless; come, give thy word success;
stablish thy righteousness, Savior and friend.
3. Come, holy Comforter, thy witness bear
in this glad hour: thou, who almighty art, now rule in
every heart, and ne’er from us depart, Spirit of power.
4. To Thee, great One in Three, the highest praises be,
hence evermore; thy sovereign majesty may we in
glory see, and to eternity love and adore.
The Word of God
Celebrant: Alleluia. Christ is risen.
People: The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.
Celebrant and People:
ALMIGHTY GOD, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets
are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we
may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your Holy Name; through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The Gloria S280 “Gloria in Excelsis” Robert Powell
1. Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.
2. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you,
we give thanks to you thanks, we praise you for your glory.
3
3. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,
4. you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;
5. you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.
6. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
7. you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
A Litany for “Hanging On” Fran Pratt
Our souls are bowed down within us.
When we think of all we have to mourn.
It’s easy to see the chaos and broken systems;
Harder to see the beauty and the good.
You’ve told us to “refrain from anger”, “forsake wrath”, “don’t fret”
But it’s hard not to be angry with all this injustice here.
We need help hanging on, God.
We need help keeping hope alive.
We need help not to worry.
We need help remembering the vision.
Help us to guard the good treasure entrusted to us:
The treasure of the community of heaven,
Which we are constantly working to bring to earth
With the help of the Holy Spirit living in us.
+.Rekindle your spirit within us
Which is not a spirit of fear,
But of power, of love,
And of self-discipline;
So that we can hang on through all these injustices and uncertain times,
Until the vision of your Good Community comes to be. Amen.
The Collect of the Day
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
Celebrant: Let us pray.
O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our
understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all
things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can
desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The First Reading Acts 17:22-31
22 Then Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, ‘Athenians, I see how extremely
religious you are in every way. 23For as I went through the city and looked carefully at
the objects of your worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, “To an
unknown god.” What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. 24The
God who made the world and everything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does
not live in shrines made by human hands, 25nor is he served by human hands, as though
he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all
things. 26From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted
the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live, 27so
that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him—though indeed
he is not far from each one of us. 28For “In him we live and move and have our being”; as
even some of your own poets have said, “For we too are his offspring.” 29Since we are God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold, or silver,
or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals. 30While God has
overlooked the times of human ignorance, now he commands all people everywhere to
repent, 31because he has fixed a day on which he will have the world judged in
righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all
by raising him from the dead.’
Reader: The Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
Psalm 66:7-18 Congregation reads at asterisk.
7 Bless our God, you peoples; *
make the voice of his praise to be heard; 8 Who holds our souls in life, *
and will not allow our feet to slip. 9 For you, O God, have proved us; *
you have tried us just as silver is tried. 10 You brought us into the snare; *
you laid heavy burdens upon our backs. 11 You let enemies ride over our heads; we went through fire and water; *
but you brought us out into a place of refreshment. 12 I will enter your house with burnt-offerings and will pay you my vows, *
which I promised with my lips and spoke with my mouth when I was in trouble. 13 I will offer you sacrifices of fat beasts with the smoke of rams; *
I will give you oxen and goats.
5
14 Come and listen, all you who fear God, *
and I will tell you what he has done for me. 15 I called out to him with my mouth, *
and his praise was on my tongue. 16 If I had found evil in my heart, *
the Lord would not have heard me; 17 But in truth God has heard me; *
he has attended to the voice of my prayer. 18 Blessed be God, who has not rejected my prayer, *
nor withheld his love from me.
The Second Reading 1 Peter 3:13-22
13 Now who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good? 14But even if you do
suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear, and do not be
intimidated, 15but in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be ready to make your
defence to anyone who demands from you an account of the hope that is in you; 16yet do
it with gentleness and reverence. Keep your conscience clear, so that, when you are
maligned, those who abuse you for your good conduct in Christ may be put to
shame. 17For it is better to suffer for doing good, if suffering should be God’s will, than to
suffer for doing evil. 18For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the
unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made
alive in the spirit, 19in which also he went and made a proclamation to the spirits in
prison, 20who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of
Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight people, were saved
through water. 21And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal of
dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God,
with angels, authorities, and powers made subject to him.
Reader: The Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.
The Anthem “Here I Am, Lord” Daniel Schutte, arr. L.Larson
Robin and Terry Smith, soloists
I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry.
All you dwell in dark and sin my hand will save.
I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear their light to them? Whom shall I send?
I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain.
I have wept for love of them, they turn away.
6
I will break their hearts of stone, give the hearts for love alone.
I will speak my Word to them. Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. It is I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if You lead, I will hold Your people in my heart.
I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them. My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. It is I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if You lead,
I will hold Your people in my heart.
The Holy Gospel John 14:15-21
Celebrant: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.
People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.
15 ‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16And I will ask the Father, and he
will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever. 17This is the Spirit of truth,
whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know
him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.
18 ‘I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19In a little while the world will no
longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. 20On that day you
will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21They who have my
commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be
loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them.’
Leader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ according to John.
People: Praise to You, Lord Christ.
The Homily Penn Perry Executive Director of the Trinity Center
The Nicene Creed (All stand)
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that
is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God, eternally begotten of the
Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit
7
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have
no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father
and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
The Prayers of the People The Leader and People pray responsively.
Alleluia! What was dead shall live; what was dark shall shine; what was forgotten shall
be remembered, for the Lord is risen and walks among us. Let us confidently bring before
God the needs of all our world, asking God for renewal saying, Christ is risen indeed.
God of life, in gratitude and great joy we laud you for the gifts of Christ’s resurrection.
On this day give us hope, for Christ is risen:
Christ is risen indeed.
On this feast day which belongs to all Christian believers, may we commit ourselves to
work toward the unity of the church, that Christ’s body may be one, for Christ is risen:
Christ is risen indeed.
Honoring the gift of Christ’s risen body, may we rise to serve all those whose needs keep
them from seeing themselves as the image of God; for Christ is risen:
Christ is risen indeed.
For all who have need of the gift of Easter; for all who journey from illness to health,
from despair to hope, from grief to consolation, from loneliness to love; for all our
brothers and sisters, that death may have no more power over us, for Christ is risen:
Christ is risen indeed.
For all who suffer and all who mourn, that today the Lord God will wipe away all tears,
for Christ is risen:
Christ is risen indeed.
May we have persistent faith of Mary Magdalene and the surprised belief of Peter and
John. May we long to be God’s sign of life in our world, for Christ is risen:
Christ is risen indeed.
Silence; the people may add their own petitions.
8
May we be one in faith with all who have died in Christ, for our life is hid with Christ in
God; for Christ is risen:
Christ is risen indeed.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for St. Timothy’s Church, Greenville, with the
Rev’d John Porter-Acee III, Rector and the Rev’d Deacon Jack Robertson, and for St.
John’s Church, Grifton. In the Ecumenical Cycle of Prayer, we give thanks for the First
Baptist Church of Morehead City and First Baptist Church, Beaufort.
We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life, especially [today’s petitions].
We will exalt you, O God our King;
and praise your Name for ever and ever.
The Celebrant concludes with this collect:
God of life, we thank you for the mystery planted in us, the paradox of life from death
and community from scattered disciples. We praise you for the dying which saves us
from death and for the rising which brings us life. We pray, as we live, through Jesus the
risen one, in the power of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
The Doxology Old 100th
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen
The Holy Communion
The Eucharistic Prayer
The Celebrant continues:
9
It is truly right, and good and joyful, to give you thanks, all-holy God, source of life and
fountain of mercy. You have filled us and all creation with your blessing and fed us with
your constant love; you have redeemed us in Jesus Christ and knit us into one body.
Through your Spirit you replenish us and call us to fullness of life. Therefore, with
Angels and Archangels and with the faithful of every generation, we lift our voices with
all creation as we sing:
Sanctus S129 “Holy, Holy, Holy Lord” Robert Powell
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
The Celebrant proceeds:
We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to
us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the
prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days
you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the
world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you.
In him, who have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of
death into life.
On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had
given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take eat: This is
my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them
and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed
for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink this, do this for the
remembrance of me.” Therefore, according to his command, O Father,
Celebrant and People
We remember his death, We proclaim his resurrection, We await his coming in glory.
The Celebrant continues:
And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to
you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.
We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be
the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to
your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the
Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and
bring us to that heavenly country where, with St. Francis, St. Clare, and all your saints,
we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ
10
our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our
salvation.
By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is
yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen.
Celebrant continues: As our Savior Christ, has taught us, we now pray, People:
Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Breaking of the Bread (a period of silence is kept)
Fraction Anthem S169 “My flesh is food indeed” Ray Urwin
Cantor: My flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed, says the Lord.
All: My flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed, says the Lord.
Cantor: Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood dwell in me, and I in them.
All: My flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed, says the Lord.
The Celebrant says:
The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for
you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.
After Communion, the Celebrant says: All stand.
The Celebrant and the People say:
Almighty and everliving God, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the
most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in
these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of
your eternal kingdom.
And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve
you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be
honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
The Blessing
The Recessional “Prayer of St. Francis” Sebastian Temple
11
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred; let me bring your love,
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,
And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope,
Where there is darkness only light,
And where there’s sadness ever joy.
Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved, as to love, with all my soul.
Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
In giving of ourselves that we receive,
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
The Dismissal
Celebrant: Let us go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the spirit.
Alleluia, Alleluia , Alleluia!
People: Thanks be to God.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!
