WELCOME TO MUSIC AT ALL SAINTS’

All Saints’ Music Guild is pleased to present our 2014-2015 season of great music at All Saints’.

From ancient music to premières of modern works, both sacred and secu-lar, at All Saints’ you will find an exciting variety of ways to experience the beauty of holiness through music. We invite you to join us for our special choral services and concerts.

In addition to our Sunday morning service of Choral Eucharist at 10:00 a.m., the choirs of All Saints’ offer a wide variety of opportunities to wor-ship amid the sacred sounds of great choral music of the ages, especially music of the Anglican/American choral tradition.

Some of these offerings are:

CHORAL EVENSONG The most uniquely Anglican of services, Evensong offers the opportunity to worship in meditation and prayer, as led by the choir. Music features sung prayers, glorious settings of the canticles and psalms, and hymns and anthems. This service is followed by a wine and cheese reception and the opportunity for fellowship.

MISSA MYSTICA Throughout the liturgical year, the choirs mark many of the major feast days with choral settings of the Holy Eucharist.

On these occasions the choir offers great settings of the Mass, from Pal-estrina and Byrd, to Mozart and Haydn, to modern settings, on behalf of the congregation. These services offer a special time for contemplation and reflection.

SERVICES IN THE STYLE OF TAIZÉ Amid the glow of a candlelit chapel, these quiet, occasional Wednesday evening services offer a unique way to worship. The service includes chants from the Taizé community, and other traditions, as well as readings and periods of silence.

CONCERTS Special occasions to encounter the transcendent in monu-mental works of choral and instrumental art. Because these works require performing forces that surpass normal liturgical limitations, admission fees apply for concerts only (except for All Saints’ Music Guild donors with season passes).

We look forward to welcoming you to All Saints!

WelcomeJASON KLEIN

AnnualSpring Concert

All Saints’ is pleased to welcome our new Assistant Organist & Choral Director, Jason Klein. Jason is a native of Chicago, and is a Master of Music candidate in organ at the university of Southern California. Additionally he has Bachelor of Music degrees from uSC and northwestern university, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Music from Concordia university. Most recently Jason has served as organist at St. Wilfrid of york Episcopal Church in Huntington Beach, and accompanied them on a tour this summer during which they were the resident choir for a week at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. Jason will lead our Chorister program, will share in service playing, accompanying and conducting duties, and assist with the promotion of our music program. We are excited about the contribution that Jason will make to the musical life of our parish, and are pleased to have him in our midst.

One of the highlights of the season is our annual Spring Concert, which this year features one of Handel’s greatest, but not often performed masterworks, the Dettingen Te Deum. On 27 June 1743, the British army and its allies, under the command of King George II and Lord Stair, won a victory at the Battle of Dettingen, over the French army, commanded by the Maréchal de noailles and the Duc de Gramont. On the King’s return, a day of public thanksgiving was appointed, and Handel, at that time “Composer of Musick to the Chapel Royal,” was commissioned to write a Te Deum and an anthem (“The King Shall Rejoice”) for the occasion. The work was composed between 17 and 29 July 1743 and was first performed on 27 november 1743 in the Chapel Royal of St. James’s Palace, London in the presence of George II. not a Te Deum in the strict sense, the work is more like an oratorio, consisting of 18 sections for soloists and chorus, and is one of Handel’s grandest expressions.

“If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph: THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD WAS MUSIC”
