Bangladesh has signed the
“ Inter-governmentalAgreement on Trans-AsianRailway (TAR) Network ”
as 20th Signatory on09.11.2007 and ratificationwas also proposed on11.08.2010
Bangladesh has x Bi-lateral (Working)Agreements with Indiaand Inter GovernmentRailway Meetings (IGRM)are being held on regular(yearly) basis. ForRegional & sub-regionalConnectivity steps arefollowing ;

PM’S COMMITMENT & INSTRUCTIONS
➢ Hon’ble PM has given emphasis on Railway transportand instructed to connect each District in Rail-Network.Ministry of Railway is created separately and budgetallocation in railway sector is increased tremendously(N.B-USD1.6 b in 2017-18, 4th highest of NB).
➢ Hon’ble PM’s instruction is to construct either BG orDG considering Trans-Asian, Regional and sub-regionalconnectivity. And accordingly,
➢ Railway Master Plan (2015-2030) is going to be updatedand Projects are being taken in 7th FYP & ADPs in lightof SDG.

1. East Zone -1308.27 km route (MG-1273.38 & DG-34.89km)
(i) Dhaka-Tongi-Chittagong MG double line 249.55km (out of 322.00 km.)
a) Akhaura - Laksam DG double line is under construction with ADB finance (cost-USD800 m).
b) 2nd Bhairab & 2nd Titas Bridges (cost-USD 112 m) are already constructed , besides Dhaka-Tongi3rd & 4th line (cost-USD123 m) is under construction with Indian 1st LOC finance.
c) Secondary route Laksam -Chandpur ,Laksam-Noakhali , Chittagong–Shuloshohor -Duhazari , Fatehabad-Nazirhat
d) Tertiary route Chittagong University
(ii) (Dhaka) Akhaura-Sylhet-Chhatak route
a) Kulaura - Shahbajpur BG line (cost-USD 95 m) is under construction with Indian 1st LOC finance.
b) Akhaura-Sylhet DG line is adopted to implement under G to G finance.
(iii) (Dhaka-)Tongi-Joydebpur-Mymensingh-Jamalpur MG line .
a) Secondary route Bhairab- Mymensingh, Mymensingh –Shyamgonj-Muhongonj
Shyamgonj-JariaJanjail,Jamalpur-Jogonnathgonj Ghat , Tarakandi –BBE & Jamalpur-Bahadurabad Ghat
(iv) Padma Rail Link Project (Dhaka – Bhanga – Jessore-Benepole is adopted under G to G finance (cost-USD 4.20 b). .
(v) Duhazari – Cox’sbazar – Ramu-Gundhum DG line is under construction with ADB finance (cost-USD 2.00 b).

2. West zone -1568.83 km route (MG-534.67 km, BG-659.33 & DG-374.83km)
(i) Joydebpur- Iswardi- Darshona BG line, [Bangabandhu Sheik Mujib Rail Bridge (cost-USD 1.2 b)on Jamuna
with JICA fund, besides Joydebpur- Iswardi- Darshona BG double line project is adopted to implement under
G-G finance ]
a) Darshona -Abdulpur BG double line
b) Khulna –Darshona (Border)BG line [BG double line is adopted (cost-USD 460 m)under Indian
2nd LOC c) Khulna –Mongla BG line is under construction (cost USD 535 m) with Indian 1st LOC finance.
d) Secondary route Jessore – Benapole BG line (Border line), Kustia- Gualonda Ghat BG line,
e) Tertiary route Kalukhali – Bhatiapara BG line, Pachuria- Faridpur- Bhanga BG line.
(ii) Abdulpur- Chilahati BG line (Chilahati – Chilahati Border line project is adopted to implement with own
resources)
a) Abdulpur – Rohanpur BG line (Border line)
b) Amnura – Chapainawabgonj BG line .
c) Panchagarh – Kanchan - Birol BG line (Border line)
d) Dinajpur – Parbatipur BG line
e) Chilahati – Chilahati Border BG line (30 km) is adopted with GOB finance.
f) Tertiary line, Parbatipur – Madhyapara & Parbatipur – Barapukuria BG line (30 km)
(iii) Parbatipur- Kawnia – Lalmonirhat-Burimari MG line, [ Parbatipur- Kawnia DG line is adopted (cost-USD 216
m) under Indian 2nd LOC finance. ]

FREIGHT OPERATION INDIA – BANGLADESH➢ Working Agreements govern Train operations between India and Bangladesh :
➢ Broad Gauge links at four locations provide traffic interchanging viz;
1. Petrapole-Benapole
2. Gede-Darshana
3. Singhabad-Rohanpur and
4. Radhikapur-Birol (recently)
➢ Rolling stock in good condition (covered wagons) is provided by IR&BR
➢ Joint Train Checking in both directions takes place at a single point
➢ Customs clearance is arranged by IR and BR in respective territory (now it will be end
to end).

PASSENGER TRAIN SERVICES INDIA - BANGLADESH
➢ Working of trains governed by the Fundamental and
subsidiary Rules and Running Power Agreement for
interchange of Traffic ;
➢ Both IR and BR contribute equally towards the rolling
stock–Locomotives provided by IR and BR in respective territory
➢ Each Railway provides primary maintenance of its rake.
➢ The crews and guards of IR and BR man the trains in respective territory
➢ Customs and Immigration clearance arranged by IR and
BR on respective border stations (Now end to end)
➢ Revenue apportionment on KM basis
