Second Sunday of Easter - April 19, 2020 - Divine Mercy Sunday Page 3

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Alleluia! Jesus Christ is risen indeed! As we continue to rejoice in Christ’s victory over sin and death, I greet each of you with love and gladness, assuring you of my thoughts and prayers. Surely, this is an unprecedented celebration of Easter, where we feel like the disciples of Jesus, sequestered within locked doors with our fear and anxieties for the future. But, it is in such situation and cir‐cumstances that the Risen Lord manifests Himself to us with His greetings: “Peace be with you”. It is in those moments of personal prayer with the Risen Lord where He assures us of His presence in our midst to comfort and strengthen us in our faith. While we did not have the privilege and pleasure to gather as the living Body of Christ in our Church to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Easter Sunday, I am confident that our parish community were welcomed by Jesus into the Most Sacred Heart and it is there that He holds us throughout this time even though we were not able to receive the Eucharist. I wish to share with you news, which I’ve received with great peace and gratitude to God’s wise providence. Given the financial uncertainty that not only all of our parishes but also the Chancery are experiencing due to the pandemic crisis, Bishop Olmsted has decided to postpone for the mo‐ment my transition to full‐time ministry as his Assistant. Remaining as pastor for the time being will also give some stability to precarious and difficult situation in which our parish community finds ourselves along with many other parishes because of the lack of income from the plate collec‐tion. I am grateful that Bishop is also thinking ahead and watching over our parish community. Therefore, I will NOT start my new assignment this July, but I will remain as your pastor for the present time. While I prayed the Sacred Paschal Triduum and every Mass physically apart from you, know that I prayed as a part of you...holding each and every one of you in my heart, as we all priests hold, with the utmost devotion and faith, the Most Sacred Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in our hands. As we prayed on Good Friday...let us continue to pray for one another and an end to the pandemic: “Let us pray, dearly beloved, for a swift end to the coronavirus pandemic that afflicts our world, that our God and Father will heal the sick, strengthen those who care for them, and help us all to persevere in faith. Almighty and merciful God, source of all life, health and healing, look with com‐passion on our world, brought low by disease; protect us in the midst of the grave challenges that assail us and in your fatherly providence grant recovery to the stricken, strength to those who care for them, and success to those working to eradicate this scourge. Through Christ our Lord. Amen!” Let us always and in every moment keep our minds and hearts firmly fixed on Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord! Sincerely yours in Christ, Msgr. Peter Bui

During this time of uncertainty, we are blessed with a wonderful parish community that is coming together to support each other during these difficult times. We are working hard to stay connected with our parish family through the parish website, parish-wide emails, printed material, phone calls, and our new FACEBOOK (www.facebook.com/HolySpiritTempe) page which will bring LIVE STREAM Sunday Masses at 11:00 a.m. and Daily Masses at 8:00 a.m. If you have not been receiving the parish-wide emails, please reach out to parish office with your email address to ensure receiving future parish notifications. Our parish depends on the Sunday plate collection, e-giving tithing, and contribu-tions mailed to the parish office, which allow us to meet our parish expenses each week. With the suspension of our Masses, your financial gifts of loose cash, checks, and offertory envelopes, received through the weekly collection are now not received each week. Setting up weekly, or monthly, e-giving tithing through FAITH DIRECT is an easy and secure way to ensure that your financial gift is received. Through FAITH DIRECT, you are always able to make changes to your financial gift as needed. If you need assistance with FAITH DIRECT e-giving, please do not hesitate to contact the parish office, (480) 838-7474.

We welcome the day when we can worship together again and altogether continue to minister to our parish community through spiritual growth,

social outreach, liturgical celebrations, and religious education.
