The Power of Strengths Based Teams
How to Orchestrate a Strengths Based team
Exercise
Principles to Keep in Mind
• Every person is of value
• Every person has a contribution to make
• The most effective teams build on the strengths of members
Partner Exercise: Your Experience?
…did not feel equipped? How did you feel about yourself and the process?
When have you faced a challenge for which you…
…knew you had just what was needed? What within yourself did you draw upon? What was the result?
Strengths Based Teams
•begin with people who know their own talents•and recognize the strengths of others
1 Corinthians 12:17-20If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
How to do this…. If it is a team that already exists, look
at the makeup of the team If you are coming together for the first
time: Get to know one another's talents
and strengths. Where do people WANT to
contribute. What do they do well? Where do they feel their greatest
sense of satisfaction and contribution?
Orchestrate those talents based on your goals and objectives…

Steps Towards Strengths
Become intimately familiar with your own talents and build strengths
Help each other recognize the ways in which each person is offering his or her
talents
Build on strengths of the collective individuals
Ask: How do you use your talent within your current role? How do you partner together so that each person has the ability to do what he or she does best?

Form Complementary Partnerships•Executing: "Leaders with dominant strength in the
Executing domain know how to make things happen. When you need someone to implement a solution, these are the people who will work tirelessly to get it done. Leaders with a strength to execute have the ability to "catch" an idea and make it a reality."

Form Complementary Partnerships• Influencing: "Those who lead by Influencing help
their team reach a much broader audience. People with strength in this domain are always selling the team's ideas inside and outside the organization. When you need someone to take charge, speak up, and make sure your group is heard, look to someone with the strength to influence."ActivatorCommandCommunicationCompetitionMaximizerSelf-AssuranceSignificanceWoo Strengths-Based Leadership

Form Complementary Partnerships• Relationship-Building: "Those who lead through Relationship
Building are the essential glue that holds a team together. Without these strengths on a team, in many cases, the group is simply a composite of individuals. In contrast, leaders with exceptional Relationship Building strength have the unique ability to create groups and organizations that are much greater than the sum of their parts."Adaptability

Conclusion on Strengths Based Teams
•We thrive when we operate from our strengths
•The team is more engaged
•Our ministry will be strongerSo if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus.- Philippians 2:1-30
