Trunk or Treat Celebration by Kim Mink

I am constantly blown away by the generosity of Concord United Methodist Church. We had a record crowd here on Sunday for our annual Trunk or Treat event. Thank you to the record breaking 57 trunks that we had to make this event so successful. We are also grateful for the many who donated candy and those who gave their time to serve food all evening. Thanks to our youth for putting together such fun games. Thankful to a staff who works as a team to provide these outreach opportunities to our church and community. Way to go Concord! You have certainly paid it forward! What a blessing YOU have been to the world around us.

Did you know…?

Did you know that Concord UMC has a columbarium? A what? A columbarium — niches behind a beautiful bronze wall in the chapel. The niches hold cremated remains of loved ones.

Since Roman times, Christians have buried their dead in churches. A number of churches in our area have con-tinued that tradition in recent years by using appropriate facilities for the ashes of their members. The use of cre-mation on a wide scale makes the inurnment of ashes a meaningful way for churches to serve their members. The church is where we are baptized and give our lives to Christ; what better place could there be for the placement of our remains?

Of the 160 niches currently in the Chapel, 60 have been purchased and 20 loved ones are interred there now. Church families may reserve niches for future use with payment of $1,000 each ($500 for the construction costs and tax deductible $500 deposited into an endowment fund for upkeep of the building surrounding the colum-barium). Contact Vicki Eleazer with any questions or to get further information.

The walls are up and we helped celebrate the beginning of Loudon County HFH's 100th new home. We are get-ting ready for the next big task - putting up the roof trusses on Novem-ber 9. To register for this year's build, please email Chuck Parmele at [email protected] or call/text him at 414-4463.

The House That Jack Built

Holiday Food Baskets

Your help is needed as the holidays draw near! Each year, with the help and generosity of our church members, CUMC delivers holiday food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christ-mas for those in our community in need. Last year we also were able to assist families through the TREKK ministry at Cedar Bluff Elementary School.

The below items are needed for the food baskets. The bold-ed food items are MUST needs.

Canned Items Needed: Green Beans, Corn, Fruits, Mixed Vegetables, Sweet potatoes, Peas, Pumpkin, Cran-berry Sauce, Soup, Meat

Non-Perishable Items Needed: Peanut Butter, Macaroni

& cheese, Small Bags of Flour and Sugar, Cornbread Mix, Coffee & Tea, Jello, and Dried Beans.

All items must be collected by Sunday, November 24. Drop off your items in one of the bins at the welcome stations throughout the church. Let us serve those in the community in love and in mission!

Don’t forget Saturday night, November 2,

to move your clocks back an hour.
