Come in and write the following questions down on a sheet of paper, then answer them to the best of your ability. What is Physical Fitness? Why is Physical Fitness important? How can Physical Fitness benefit you? What does it mean to be “Fit”?

What does it mean to be fit? Fitness is the ability to handle the

physical work and play of everyday life without becoming overly tired.

It also means you have energy in the reserve to meet unexpected demands.

Two different Areas of Physical Fitness Health Fitness-

broken down into 5 parts. Cardiovascular

Fitness Muscular Fitness Muscular Endurance Flexibility Body Fatness

Skill Fitness- broken down into 6 parts Agility Balance Coordination Power Reaction Time Speed

Health Fitness

Cardiovascular Fitness- helps you have a healthy heart, blood vessels and lungs.

Muscular Strength- allows the muscles that move your bones to put forth a great deal of force.

Muscular Endurance- regular exercise improves muscular endurance. The longer you do an activity, the more endurance you build.

Skill Fitness

Agility- the ability to change positions quickly while controlling body motion

Balance- the ability to keep your body in steady position while standing, sitting or moving

Coordination- the ability of the body parts to work together at one time

Skill Fitness..

Power- the ability to combine strength with speed

Reaction Time- the amount of time it takes you to move after or see a signal

Speed- the ability to move your body quickly from one place to another

Health Fitness (continued) Flexibility- allows you to move your

body freely. Good flexibility means that muscle stretch well and joints move easily.

Body Fatness- the percent of your body weight that is fat.
