Welcome BackCHS Week 1
American Literature DO NOW 8-5-14Take a syllabus as you walk in.Read it once through quietly, underlining or
annotating any info that seems important.
Do Nows are a level 0 noise activity: That means do not talk to anyone for any reason. Questions? Raise your hand and wait quietly.
I will be giving you a quick quiz over the syllabus when you are done, so read carefully.

policies/procedures on the syllabus.
Students will take a self-assessment to determine their learning style and read the learning strategies/tips for that learning style.
Students can show success today by annonating their syllabus and reporting out what’s important
Efficient classes will have time to play a couple games outside.

Students will take a self-assessment to determine their learning style and read the learning strategies/tips for that learning style.
Students can show success today by acing their syllabus mini-quiz today and by listing at least one strategy they learned from their learning strategy as today’s exit ticket.
Efficient classes will have time to play a couple games outside.

Dippy hour DO NOW 8-5-14On a sheet of loose leaf: What type of learner
are you? Describe how you learn, how you study.
Then tell me a subject you like/are good at and a subject you dislike/struggle with.
Also, do you know what “multiple intelligences” are? If so, can you name or give examples.
English 10 DO NOW 8-6-14Remember the DO NOW Norms (look at the
Champs slide or the poster in the back if you are confused)
Clear your desk except for a separate sheet of loose leaf paper (no spiral paper unless you “take the teeth to the dentist”)
Write the words “Do Now” and the dateThen respond to the following about the
syllabus:
1. What are the required materials and when do you need them?
2. Name one assignment/assessment/big idea from the syllabus
3.Define “on your mark”

English 10 Learning Objective & Success 8-6Students will demonstrate computer literacy skills in
the PC lab on a basic and then proficient level.Students will demonstrate the ability to follow the
social norms required today.Success means you followed the CHAMPS norms for
transitioning from the classroom to the lab and you completed your day one checklist.
Elite students will read the glossary of definitions to learn more about computer literacy.
HW: Signed syllabus packet, Self-Inventory, practice your computer literacy skills
Transitions Norms1. Line up at the door behind the green title (green lava)2. All conversations end as you pass through the door.3. Level 1 Spy Talk is ok in the halls.4. The group should not stretch farther than 15 ft from 1st-last person. (aka Keep up!)4. If the library is locked, wait in front of door. Do not go to safety desk.5. You may get water if you beat me down to the library.6. You need DIRECT EXPLICIT PERMISSION to do anything other than a straight line to our destination. (i.e. ask for bathroom or locker).7. We operate under the “no class should have to shut their door because of us” respect policy.8.
Computer Lab NormsComputer lab is a volume level 0-1 normally which
means stay quiet.Computer is by assignment so be prepared to move. Don’t move the chairsDo not print without permissionOnce seated ask permission if you need to get out of your
seat.If there is ANY ISSUE/PROBLEM with your PC, raise your
hand and wait quietly for my help. If you have Computer Literate, I may ask you to fix it.
Rules: will have consequences everytime up to losing PC privileges for a day or longer
Do not unplug the keyboard/mouseDo not touch- do not even look at the back of the PC. DO not touch the monitor/screen either

Students will work on testing their vocabulary skills while feeding the world through freerice.com
Success means that all tasks are completed with enough time for students to fill an entire bowl with rice.
