10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. 11 And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12 And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way. -Matthew 2:10-12
Dear Friends in Christ,
Epiphany is January 6th, after the 12 days of Christmas. It marks the visit of the Magi to Jesus, and serves as a tie in to the Baptism of Jesus. Epiphany is a “big reveal.” The significance of the Magi visiting the Holy Family of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus is that they were most certainly Gentiles (non Israelites) who trusted in God and believed that the gift of salvation was for them. The Bible, let alone the chapters surrounding the Christmas story of Luke 2, is full of “big reveals.”
The Shepherds received the big reveal of the angel and then a multitude of angels announcing Christ’s birth. Mary and Joseph were greeted by a group of shepherds, giving them the big reveal that this truly was the son of God in their lowly manger. Simeon, the priest in the temple 8 days after Jesus’ birth, was waiting for the Messiah to come, and when Jesus appeared, he knew that this child was the Savior.
The beauty for these big reveals is that “all” the receivers of the Good News had to go on was the Word of God. The same is true for all people today. We have the Promise of God. Salvation depends on trust that God keeps His promises. Through faith, we can be baptized into Christ’s death and resurrection. The same joy that hit the shepherds, Simeon, the Magi, Peter, Paul, and on and on hits us when we hear the Word of God and believe.
God is using you and this entire congregation to be the means through which He delivers another big reveal to someone. Perhaps your neighbor, your grocer, a stranger at a ball game, or maybe someone in your own family. You have been equipped with the Gospel Promise to proclaim. God will lead. God will direct. God will change hearts. God will save, just as He has saved you.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Grunklee
WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST MEMBERS!
BRAD AND CHRIS LARSON
A warm welcome to our new members, Brad and Chris Larson. They moved to Lubbock from
Carol Stream, Illinois. Brad's career was as global Treasurer for Payless ShoeSource, PetSmart
and Claire's Boutique, following 10 years as a radio announcer. Chris was his rock and anchor
which made his career possible. Among other things, Chris was a pre-school teaching assistant,
Homeland Security TSA Agent and a hospital volunteer. They both grew up in Iowa and love to
travel. They have lived in Topeka, KS, Phoenix, AZ, Omaha, NE, and Chicago, IL, among other
cities. They decided to retire last year and move to Lubbock so they could live near their son and
his family while their grandsons (Cade-9 and Reid-6) are still young enough to appreciate their grandparents. Scott is Associ-
ate Athletic Director at Lubbock Christian University and his wife, Marla, is a fourth-grade teacher at Oak Ridge Elemen-
tary. Currently Chris is a volunteer at UMC Hospital and Brad does occasional Treasury consulting work around the country.
WE WELCOME YOU TO CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH!!

The PDO teachers and I are looking forward to the New Year! Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. We have many fun activities planned for the students. When we return we
will continue with "K" as our letter of the week. This month we will also learn the differ-
ence between a lemon and a lime and at the end of the week we will vote to see if we like lemonade or limeade better. We can’t wait to
see their faces!! We will have “Read To Me” on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. The children truly enjoy the attention they receive during this time. We hope everyone has a blessed 2015!

L.S.S. NEWS Foster Care (FIT) – Our present census is 56 which is 7 under the budget. We are working to recruit new families.
Wedgewood South – Census was 48 in November and now we have 47 with one small apartment open but we have a hold on it so we are back at a full house. Tours/inquiries are still slow but the ad in today’s paper should pick things up. We are working with a waiting list.
Health for Friends – Our numbers were down for November due to the ice and
some sites being closed for Thanksgiving. There were 34 test strips distributed for a total of $431.64 and 2 glucometers given out. We assisted with 7 prescriptions leaving a balance of $17.41. Then last week filled another prescription for $17.39 depleting the prescription fund. Screened 50 for the first time ever. The United Way Victory lunch was attended and it is great that United Way met their goal so the funds will continue for HFF. It is amazing to note that with only two nurses, they made 6600 encounters with clients this year. They are helping and touching a lot of lives. There were 1204 screened in the clinic so far this year.
Neighborhood House – There were 579 assisted with utilities in November, making the dollar amount for the year to be just over 1.1 million in utility assistance. The CEAP funds are out except for the multi-pays. There is still some assistance for the customers of Atmos and South Plains Electric. There was an increase in the kid packs since they were added to the Thanksgiving baskets. The value of services rendered so far is just under $1.3 million. We never know when the CEAP funds will arrive for the new year but generally it is available in late January or February. The average household income is $825.
NEEDED – Deodorant.
Our next meeting is at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12TH, at Neighborhood House, 1212 13th, Suite 102, Lubbock.

Please pray for our children:
Almighty God, heavenly Father, You have blessed us with the joy and care of children. Give us calm strength and patient wisdom
that as they grow in years, we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good, following the example of our Savior, Jesus
