He prayed. Praying out loud – for me, in the car, walking with Jack – helps me better understand what’s on my mind and heart – what matters, what really doesn’t – what to offer to God, what to delete. 2. He had a circle of friends – the twelve who went through life with him. People underestimate the role of friendship in Jesus’ life. Jesus had a mixed bag of friends. God blesses us through mixed bag people…like us. 3. He engaged in regular corporate worship at synagogue. Spiritual benefit from worship requires physical presence. As many or more people come to worship here as ever, but most come noticeably less often. That really bothers me. 4. He fed his mind with Scripture. A faithful, intelligent understanding of the Bible’s core message opens us to God’s breath-giving, life- changing love for our lives and others. 5. He enjoyed God’s creation – mountain, garden, and lake. Baffles me why environment care is dubbed “liberal” – it is deeply conservative. 6. He took long walks. Physical exercise releases our natural, God-given spiritual mood and joy elevators. 7. He welcomed little children, hugged, and blessed them. Pay attention. From the wigglers to the wrinklies. All ages, the child is still in there. 8. He enjoyed partying with non-religious types. Hmmm. Here is one a lot of you are already pretty good at. Number 3!
