The Object of Rotary
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life; FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business professional persons united in the ideal of service.

This week: 10 Steps to get ready for retirement
Today’s Greeter Bev
The Coffee Press Weekly Newsletter of The Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise
Today’s Door Prize Bob
Our guest speaker this week is Ed Hickey, who is a volunteer speaker for AARP Hawaii. AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization for people 50+ with 38 million national members, including 148,000 members in Hawaii. Although most of our membership is older, we care about issues that matter to all of Hawaii’s families including: long-term care; access to
affordable, quality health care; and, support for family caregivers.
We also provide information tools to prepare for retirement and serve as a reliable source of information on issues critical to older Americans.
Today, Ed will discuss 10 Steps to Get Ready for Retirement. This workshop is designed to help you: explore the idea
of retirement as a life transition, visualize your goals, and identify the steps needed to build retirement security and the life you want.
Welcome Ed!

What is the Rotarian Action Group Alzheimer’s Dementia?
This is the third in the series on Rotary Action Groups. A new RAG will be highlighted each week to encourage members to find and join a group .
Welcome!
Thank you for visiting the
Alzheimer’s / Dementia
Rotarian Action Group. We
are a collection of Rotarians
and Rotaractors dedicated to
supporting the family of
Rotary and our communities
face the challenge of dealing
with family members and
citizens that are afflicted with
Alzheimer’s and/or dementia.
This challenge is very
real. Some are calling it the
“silver tsunami”—the wave of
men and women living longer
than previous
generations. Yet our
communities and nations are
not ready to face the rising
tide of those suffering from
these diseases. Researchers
predict that 6.7 million people
in America alone will have
Alzheimer’s alone. Today,
one in eight older Americans
have Alzheimer’s, and the risk
of developing the brain
disorder doubles every five
years after age 65.
We have started this Rotarian
Action Group to help address
this challenge. Please visit
our other pages on this site
and the links to other
organizations and resources
that are on the front line of
care, research, and education
as we work to ready our
communities to face this
tsunami.
Our Vision and Mission
Who Are We?
We are Rotarians and
Rotaractors that have
extensive leadership
experience around
Alzheimer’s including:
Patient, Family, and
Community Education –
including statewide and
national programs
Patient Care – front line of
care including physicians,
providers, and family care
givers
Prevention – including
leading research in the field
and large-scale program
management
Research for a Cure – day-to-
day access with leading
researchers working on the
treatment, research, and cure
for Alzheimer’s and dementia
Strategic Partnerships and
Expertise – collaboration with
national and international
organizations
Our Vision
To leverage our members’
extensive experience,
resources and the Rotary
network to support and
promote Alzheimer’s and
dementia-related projects of
all sizes at the local Rotary,
district, and international
level through providing a
global platform for
collaboration, education, and
support.
Our Mission
The Alzheimer’s / Dementia
Rotarian Action Group
(ADRAG) supports its vision
by supporting Rotary and
Rotaract clubs and districts as
they plan and execute
meaningful projects and
programs centered on
Alzheimer’s and dementia.
This support will take many
forms including the education
of 1.2 million Rotarians and
Rotary leaders on the latest
scientific research in the fight
to find a cure for Alzheimer’s
disease and about the
disease’s devastating impact
on communities and families.
ADRAG will also promote
Rotary and Rotaract projects
that work within Rotary
International’s Disease
Prevention and Treatment
Area of Focus among the
communities Rotary serves in
over 200 countries around the
world.
