Dear Parents and Carers
This final week of the half term has seen our Year 12 Geographers navigate the Dorset coastline for their fieldwork studies over the weekend, 7EY and 8CX receive their ice cream van visit - a reward for their collective diligence and positivity, Year 8 travel to the French First World War Battlefields and Year 9 Drama students engage in an inspiring dance and movement workshop, and spend a marvellous afternoon with the residents of the Elders Care Home. Meanwhile, Year 10 students have camped at school as part of their Duke of Edinburgh practice, have been mentored by a number of our alumni at our Student Futures Micro Festival, and a number are heading out to Salamanca for an immersion trip over half term. Many thanks to Miss Glazebrook, Miss Bailey and Miss Reilly for leading this trip over the holiday.
Save the date: Alan Celine Dedication 26 June 2019
We have now finalised plans for the school to permanently remember the wonderful contribution to our school of our friend and colleague, Alan Celine, who so sadly died in December. On Wednesday 26 June we are going to close the school at 1.10pm and Years 11-13, with whom Alan worked most closely, along with former students and current and former staff, are going to be invited to take part in a puzzle walk around Epsom to raise money for the Princess Alice Hospice. At 4pm we will gather in the quad at the centre of the school (weather permitting) to dedicate the Sixth Form building to Alan, which will henceforth be known as the Alan Celine building. We will also be remembering Dr Millar, who is also very much missed by students and colleagues. Anyone is welcome to attend this celebration of Alan’s contribution to Rosebery and more information will follow about how to sign up for the walk or to let us know that you would like to attend the dedication.

Staffing Changes
At the end of this half term, we say farewell to Mr Parera (MFL), Mr Pathak (Law) and Mrs Blackiston (Music) and sincerely thank them for all that they have contributed to Rosebery over the last two terms. We welcome back Mrs Turner from maternity leave to the Music department and we welcome Miss Eisenzimmer to the MFL department. As usual at this time of the year our Head of Year 7 begins to work with our incoming Year 6 students, and therefore the Head of Year 8 takes the helm of this year group to ensure continuity of care. Now that Year 13 have departed, Mr Waight is moving from the Sixth Form team, and he is going to be taking on the leadership of the current Year 7 and will be their Head of Year as they move into Year 8. Additionally this year, Miss Lowe will no longer be leading Year 7, as she is joining the Leadership Team, and therefore Miss Glazebrook, her current deputy, will be taking on her role with the new Year 7 students instead.

students back for tutor time at 8.30am on Monday 3 June.

SURREY HOCKEY AWARD GOES TO…..
DRAMA NEWS
At the Surrey Hockey annual awards ceremony, Amy W 9CX was awarded the Girls under 14 ‘player of the season’. She was really chuffed and was presented with a glass trophy by Helen Richardson-Walsh (the Olympic Hockey gold medallist). This comes after a really exciting year for Amy, captaining the UK Lions and captaining Epsom girls, who not only won their league but were undefeated all season.

Thank you to the PSA for funding a subscription to Digital Theatre Plus, which has allowed Drama and English students to access a range or resources, articles and recorded theatre productions, which has been very beneficial to GCSE and A Level students. They have
been able to watch a performance a number of times, consolidating their notes and enhancing their understanding of the theatrical conventions. Mr J Waight, Head of Drama
“As a Year 12 Drama student, I have used “Digital Theatre Plus” a lot whilst working on my live theatre evaluation. As well as being able to watch many different plays - including Ghosts by Henrick Ibsen which we are currently studying - I can choose key scenes within them to enhance my focus on analysis. This, along with the on-line study guides that come with the plays, allows me to keep all my information in one easily accessible place. Also, the interviews with the cast and crew helped me gain a fully rounded understanding of my play so I could further develop my knowledge. It is a great resource to allow us to revise and enhance our under-standing of live theatre.” By Cara E, 12C

Summer Assessments—week commencing 10 June
Year 7 - students will sit two assessments for the Summer Term in Maths. The first assessment will be a numeracy assessment during PSHE on Wednesday 12 June. The second assessment will take place on either Thursday 13 or Friday 14 June in a Maths lesson. The second assessment will include questions from various topics throughout the year. Both papers will be non-calculator papers. Students have been emailed a revision list this week, so please encourage them to check their emails.
Year 8 - students will sit two assessments for the Summer Term in Maths. One exam will be a non-calculator paper and the other will be a calculator paper. Students should use the revision list to identify areas to revise and then they should use their Maths books, HegartyMaths, previous assessments and homework, as revision tools for these assessments.
Students should also attend the KS3 support club (Thursday lunchtimes in M12 from 1.25pm to 1.55pm) if they need help on a particular topic or problem, or they can just attend and complete some of the tasks available on the day.

Parents/Carers are reminded that the entrance to school via Ebbisham Road should be pedestrian or cycle access only. Our local residents are often blocked in their driveways by cars trying to reach the back gate in order to drop students as close to the school as they can. The ideal place for students to alight would be the layby next to Ebbisham Road on the A24.

Adults are a nice way to talk to, but personally your friends will understand better because they will be more understanding and usually teachers have dealt with bigger issues likes bills, and say that your issue isn’t as bad. But adults are great with sorting issues that are changeable, like seating plans you can tell your teachers. Sometimes people need time off. You can do something enjoyable with your friends and if you don’t have any, try talking to someone new. Maybe try a new activity like lacrosse or knitting. It will be a new adventure. HOW TO DEAL WITH STRESS AND ANXIETY?
Three Year 8 students, as part of a magazine writing project, have produced an article exploring ways to manage anxiety. The skills they have built lay the foundation for their Language GCSE Paper 2, Section B creative writing task. Ms V Rad, English Teacher Usually most people say that school is stressful and that’s the reason why we all have anxiety, however that is not always the way it is. Anxiety can have all sorts of reasons for why we feel the way we do. Usually other reasons can be because of family issues: siblings, parents….. But everything is different for every person; I doubt 7 billion people have similar issues. Sometimes the issues that cause us to be upset, can be things that we don’t want to admit is hurting us deep down. Mostly we can also be upset because we are attached to things, like people and things and ourselves, however this is not a bad thing, we shouldn’t be ashamed just because we are attached. It would all be easier for everyone in the world not to be so attached to things, but if we acknowledge it and accept that we are, it would hurt less. With long-term issues it’s hard to just say get over it
and it will all be over soon, we should be supporting our mates and showing that we are there for them even though the problem might seem little to us, everyone reacts to problems differently. I’m thinking of anxiety like a battlefield. It may be you, your friend, or maybe someone you know….. there’s a war going on. We are all in the front line of education. There won’t be solutions that will make the problems disappear, but there are solutions that will take the pain away for a while and distract you from thinking about it. Sports can be a great way to help occupy our minds with exercises and activities. Drama can help with expressing emotions and performing. And Art can help you be creative with drawing and painting. This won’t always help but it will most of the time. Another thing that helps me tackle issues is to talk to people about the situations you’re in, but sometimes it’s hard to tell your mates how you feel, with worry about how they will react to what you have to say. For me I’m dealing with lots of issues and I wished I told my mate sooner, but you just have to try even if it hurts, it’s really good to get your issues out in the open, I recommend telling a friend who is
On 22 May 2019 a group of ex-Rosebery students (Izzy K, Emily P, Gaby McC, Kerry C and Cassandra G) went to Buckingham Palace to receive their Gold Duke of Edinburgh award.
The award is a massive achievement as they had to complete 12 months volunteering, a 4 day expedition in the south of France and a 5 day residential placement.
Well done girls.

Bringing Forgotten Items into School
May we ask parents/carers to encourage students to be independent in checking that they have all the equipment they
need for the school day. Whilst we understand that unexpected activities may require a parent/carer to
bring an item into school, students should ensure they have everything they need for
the following day. Your help would greatly reduce the
number of items we are asked to pass on to students, as well as teaching students
good organisational skills.
