WEEKLY BULLETIN — 17 June 2016

From the Headmaster The exam season is coming to a close with the final A Level, AS and GCSE exams finally upon us. The last remaining Lower School students are also completing their final examinations today. Well done to everyone for working so hard. First Form students are visiting the Globe Theatre today returning for their end of year disco, whilst the CCF prepares for another weekend’s activities, there are cricket fixtures and a choral event to look forward to this weekend not to mention the chance to pick up a uniform bargain at tomorrow’s PFA sale. Student News Tom Allen has been awarded the Surrey Rugby U15 Player of the Year and will collect his

award at the Youth & Schools Awards Evening on Thursday 30 June at Cobham RFC. Machayla Dewdney competed in the South Region Schools Biathlon Championship at

Aldershot Garrison, securing the overall first place position by winning the swim event in her age group.

Sport News Good luck to Timea Culverwell, Ellie Heron, Stephanie Weber, Taylor Weber, Amy Wickham and Ella Woods in the first round of the Regional Hockey Trials (JRPC) this weekend. From Mr Rushby, Assistant Head Bags – a reminder to students

Please could all students be reminded of the following very simple guidelines, which are all to do with treating their own and others’ property with care and respect: Use the bag racks or lockers to store your property. The school has vast

numbers of covered bag racks all around the site and many of them are not fully used. Please do not leave bags on the ground, especially near a bag rack that is full.

Be careful not to damage others’ bags when storing or retrieving your own.

For example, be careful not to pull other bags off the bag racks when removing yours. Again, this is less likely to happen if racks are not over-filled. We do have enough capacity for all students’ bags to be stored safely and protected from the rain, but sometimes, you have to walk a little further to find some space.

During the summer holiday we will relocate some of the less-used bag racks so that there is more capacity in the busiest areas such as around the PMH.

Look after your bags, and respect everyone else’s bags. Thank you all very much for your help and co-operation.

RGS Sports Day: Friday 1 July 2016 The Annual House Sports Day is on Friday 1 July at Hartswood, beginning at 11.00am and running through to the end of the school day. As in previous years, this is a wonderful event where all students in the First, Second, Third, Fourth and Lower Sixth Forms represent their houses in track and field events. There is also the Senior Tug of War at the end of the day. We would like all students to be fully involved in Sports Day and there will be lots of activities to keep them busy when they are not on the track or field. There will also be refreshments—and support from parents and families is really welcomed. Further details about the precise timings will be supplied soon. In the meantime, students are reminded that they will need to wear house t-shirts for Sports Day. These may be purchased from the Heads of House; sleeved t-shirts (not vest tops, slogans etc.) are permissible in the correct house colour. First, Second and Third Form House Cricket, Tennis and Rounders: Saturday 2 July 2016 Another date for your diaries: this will take place at Hartswood on the morning of Saturday 2 July with matches for the First and Second Forms taking place from 9.15-11.15am; and for the Third Form from 11.30am-1.15pm. Further details will be sent nearer the time.

First to Fourth Form Celebrations and

Prize Giving We will shortly be celebrating Prize Giving for students in the First to Fourth Forms. Students who are to receive a prize will be notified separately, and it would be super to see as many of you as possible there to help celebrate the achievements of each year group. All events will be in the PMH from 8.40am-9.40am on these dates: First Form: Friday 24 June Second Form: Friday 1 July Third Form: Tuesday 28 June Fourth Form: Wednesday 29

June The majority of prizes will be awarded at the individual year group assemblies. However, School Colours and a few other prizes will be saved for the whole school end of year assembly on Tuesday 5 July.

The Box Office for Much Ado About Nothing went live to the parents of the cast and crew on Tuesday 7 June (via a

Promotion Code) and to the rest of the school community on Thursday 9 June.

The show runs from Tuesday 28 June until Friday 1 July, with performances starting at 6.00pm. The venue is at the

Headmaster’s House, One Chart Lane.
