НЕДІЛЯ П’ЯТИДЕСЯТНИЦІ
Свято Зішестя Святого Духа, П’ятидесятниця або Зелені Свята, є торжественним празником. Це свято таке саме велике, як Великдень або Різдво.
П’ятдесятого дня по Христовому воскресінні одинадцять апостолів і нововибраний апостол Матей зібралися в тій кімнаті, де Христос мав з ними Тайну вечерю. Важко собі уявити їхнє переживання після Христового вознесіння. Вони чули обітницю Христа про післання їм Святого Духа, але та обітниця не могла проникнути в їхній розум. Вони були як ті діти, загублені у великому місті серед неприязних людей. Перелякані, не знали, що робити з собою, куди звернутися. Але, як прийшов День подяки за збір урожаю, коли жиди приносили Богові п’ять хлібів з нового зерна, тоді сповнилася Христова обітниця. На апостолів зійшов Святий Дух. Він з’явився у вигляді сильного вітру і вогняних язиків. Апостоли сповнилися Святим Духом, вийшли з кімнати і стали говорити різними мовами, славлячи й проповідуючи воскреслого Христа. Сумніви й смуток розвіялися. Народилася Церква, Божа Спільнота, яку покликав Господь до особливішої мети - спасіння людського роду.
Дві тисячі років відділяють нас від тих Божих людей, велетнів духа, але плід їхньої праці є з нами сьогодні. День Зішестя Святого Духа був лише один, але цей день не має кінця. Святий Дух перебуває сьогодні з нами. Він живе й діє, опромінивши наші душі тоді, коли ми прийняли дві великі Святі Тайни: Хрищення і Миропомазання. В той день на нас зійшов Святий Дух. Священик, уділяючи нам Святу Тайну Миропомазання, помазує наше тіло святим миром і мовить: ,,Печать дару Святого Духа”. Оце хвилина, коли небо відкривається і Святий Дух сходить на нас. Від того часу Він - завжди з нами, опікується нами й керує нашим духовним життям. Без Його натхнення ми не можемо проказати ні одної молитви, без Нього, без Його заохочення ми не можемо прийняти навіть одного Святого Причастя. І коли через порушення Божої Ласки ми відчуваємо потребу приступити до Святої Сповіді, це є діяння Святого Духа, який кличе нас. Якщо під час Святої Літургії ми щиро молимося, то це є дар Святого Духа. Все це діється згідно з обітницею нашого Божественного Спасителя, Христа, який сказав: ,,Я буду просити Отця, і Він дасть вам Утішителя, який буде з вами повсякчас” (Ів. 14, 15).
Христос промовив до Своїх учнів: ,,Утішитель, Дух Правди, що Я його пішлю від Мого Отця, Він буде свідчити про Мене. І ви також свідчитимете про Мене”. Апостоли, покірні наказові Христа, були Йогосвідками. Вони проповідували Христа там, де їх поставив Святий Дух. І ми, діткнені й сповнені Святим Духом, маємо теж обов’язок свідчити про Христа в наших родинах, на місці нашої праці, всюди, де ми присутні.
У ці святкові дні ми памятаємо про наших померлих і молимося за вічний спокій душ їхніх.
PENTECOST SUNDAY
The Feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Pentecost, is a glorious feast, as great as Easter or Christmas. On the fiftieth day after Christ’s Resurrection, eleven apostles and the newly-named apostle Matthew met in the same room where the Last Supper with Christ had been held. It is difficult to imagine the emotional state of the apostles after Christ’s Resurrection. Christ had promised them that He would send the Holy Spirit but how this promise was to be fulfilled was too much for their minds to handle. They were like children, lost in a big city and surrounded by hostile people. Frightened, they did not know what to do, where to turn. But on the day the Jews celebrated the harvest, when they offered up five loaves of bread to God, Christ’s promise was fulfilled. The Holy Spirit descended on the apostles, with a gust of wind and the appearance of tongues of flame. The apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit, came out of the room and be-gan to speak in foreign languages, glorifying and preach-ing the Resurrected Christ. Doubt and sadness left them. The Church, the Community of God, was born, called by Him to fulfill the goal of salvation. Over two thousand years separate us from these people of God, these giants of faith, but the fruit of their labors is with us today. The day the Holy Spirit descended is a day without end. The Holy Spirit today abides with us. He lives and acts in us once we have received the two Holy Sacraments of Baptism and Chrismation. When the priest anoints us with holy oil and sets upon us “the seal of the Holy Spirit,” the Holy Spirit enters us and, from that time, is always with us, protecting and directing our spiritual life. Without His influence we would not be able to pray or receive the Eucharist. When we feel the need to go to Confession, it is through the intervention of the Holy Spirit. Our sincere prayer during the Divine Liturgy is the work of the Holy Spirit and our presence in church on the Feast of Pentecost is through His grace. This is all part of the promise made by our Savior, Jesus Christ, who said: “I will ask the Father and He will give you another Para-clete to be with you always” (Jn. 14, 15). The apostles preached Christ wherever the Holy Spirit sent them and we have the same obligation to bear wit-ness for Christ in our families, at work and everywhere. On this glorious feastday, let us remember our dear de-parted and pray for the eternal peace of their souls.

We extend our sincerest greetings and best wishes to Bishop Richard on this occasion. May the Almighty Father bless Bishop Richard with good health, spiritual happiness and peace so that he may continue to work faithfully in the Lord’s vineyard for many years to come and be successful in all of his endeavors. May the Mother of God protect Bishop Richard from all harm and keep him ever close to Her and Her Son.

Please register by obtaining a registration form from the parish office or emailing your request to:
Confessions are heard on Sundays during each Liturgy or by appointment.
Baptisms should be arranged through a priest at least one month prior to the date of baptism. Parents and sponsors must attend instruction prior to the baptism of their child.
Marriage: Couples planning to marry are requested to make their arrangements early, but no less than six (6) months in advance of the proposed date. Pre-marital conferences must be arranged six (6) months prior to the ceremony. At least one of the couple, or their parents should be registered participating members of St. Nicholas Cathedral for eligibility to be married in the cathedral.
Sick & Homebound: If you or a family member are confined to home and are unable to attend Liturgy either temporarily or on a continuing basis, and wish to receive communion, please notify the parish office.
Hospital Stay: If you or a family member are admitted to a hospital for any reason and wish to have a priest come to visit, please notify the parish office. Recent federal privacy laws do not allow hospitals to notify the parish if you are admitted. It is the responsibility of the patient or family to notify the parish office.

[email protected] Сповідь: Скористати з Тайни Сповіді можна кожної неділі в часі Служби Божої. Хрещення: Слід усталити дату з священником не менш як за місяць до запланованого дня хрестин. Батьки і хресні мають виконати необхідне приготування, про яке довідаються в священика. Шлюб: Наречені мають вписатися в книгу на вінчання заздалегідь, але не менш як за 6 місяців до церемонії. За шість місяців наречені мають відбути підготовчі бесіди із священиком. Принаймні один з наречених, або їх батьки мають бути зареєстрованими практикуючими парафіянами катедри, щоби вінчання могло відбутися саме в катедрі св. Миколая. Перебування в лікарні: Якщо Ви, або хтось з Вашоі родини, з будь яких причин, є на лікуванні в лікарні й бажає щоб священик його відвідав просимо повідомити про це парафіяльну канцелярію. Федеральний уряд законом про втримання таємниці (privacy law) , не дозволяє лікарній адміністрації давати знати парафії. Це є відповідальністю паціента або його родини.
