A PRAYER TO THE
HOLY SPIRIT
By St. Augustine of Hippo
Breathe in me, O Holy Spirit,
that my thoughts may all be
holy.
Act in me, O Holy Spirit,
that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit,
that I love but what is holy.
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit,
To defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit,
that I always may be holy.
Amen

NAUMANN’S PRAYER
INTENTION FOR MAY
In thanksgiving for all Mothers,
for all they do to help families to
be loving and joyful. In
thanksgiving for Mary being our
Spiritual Mother.
Pray for all graduates in
thanksgiving for God’s blessings
and that they will strive to follow
God’s will in all their future
endeavors.
For a new outpouring of the Holy
Spirit empowering priests,
consecrated religious women and
men, and all the laity to become
more effective Missionary
Disciples, sharing the Joy of the
Gospel with others.
Feast Day:
May 31st In his commentary on
Luke's Gospel, St.
Ambrose of Milan
describes this haste with
an almost untranslatable
La!n phrase, "nescit tarda
molimina Spiritus Sanc!
gra!a" which could mean: "the grace of the Holy Spirit does not know delayed
efforts' or 'delayed efforts are foreign to the grace of the Holy Spirit." Mary's free
choice to move forward and outward is reflec!ve of a decision taken deep within
her heart followed by immediate ac!on. How many things exist in our lives that
we dreamed of doing, should have done, and never did? Le%ers that should have
been wri%en, dreams that should have been realized, gra!tude that was not
expressed, affec!on never shown, words that should have been said, etc.?
Postponements and delays weigh heavily upon us, wear us down and discourage
us. They gnaw away at us. How true St. Ambrose described Mary's haste: the
Spirit completely possessed the Virgin Daughter of Nazareth and compelled her to
act. Such possession by God's Spirit is the only possession worthwhile, life-giving,
hopeful and joyful.
The story of the Visita!on teaches us an important lesson: when Christ is growing
inside of us, we will be led to people, places and situa!ons that we never dreamed
of. We will bear words of consola!on and hope that are not our own. In the very
act of consoling others, we will be consoled. We will be at peace, recollected,
because we know that however insignificant our life and issues seem to be, from
them Christ is forming himself. The women of today's Gospel show us that it is
possible to move beyond our own li%le personal agendas and engage in authen!c
ministry. Adapted from: h!p://saltandligh!v.org/blogfeed

Holy Spirit is in need of more volunteers to serve in the U-",' / 6 -+'7. Ushers
greet the congrega!on before Mass, help with sea!ng, take the collec!on, help
with Communion and distribute bulle!ns a"er Mass. Ushers are on a 3-month
rota!on, so you will only serve 4 months out of the year. This is a very important
ministry to the parish. We need help at the following Masses:
Saturday, 4:00 PM Mass: 2 volunteers
Sunday, 7:30 AM Mass: 2 volunteers
Sunday, 10:30 AM Mass: 5 volunteers
Sunday, 6:30 PM Mass: 2 volunteers
We also need subs!tutes, especially for special occasions and holy days.
This is a great way to serve God while helping the parish! Please consider
volunteering. Contact John Weber at 913.226.9517 or [email protected].
Do you know someone who is
unable to attend Mass because
they are homebound? Would he/
she like to receive communion in
the home? Holy Spirit Parish has
trained homebound ministers
who will bring Holy Communion
to homebound parishioners. If
you or someone you know needs a
visit from a Eucharistic minister,
please contact Ariel in the parish
office at 913.492.7318.

Second Grade took part in a three-week program through K-State
Extension, where they learned about the development of the chicken
embryo by observing the 21 day incuba!on period. Families were
able to watch through a WebCam 24 hours a day as the chicks
hatched. The students helped with feeding,
naming, and playing with them each day. This
was hands on learning about the life cycle and

AROUND THE ARCHDIOCESE
MARRIAGE MINUTE MAY 27, 2018
Have you seen the Trinity?
How can God be three and one at the same !me? It’s a
truth that is difficult to process. That’s why God gave the
Church married couples!
Married couples are two individuals called to become one-
in heart, mind, spirit and body. We take the Holy Trinity as
our model, because God is a perfect communion of
persons. Just as we look to the Trinity to understand what
our marriages should be, the world looks to our marriages
to understand the Trinity. Those around us come to
understand God’s generous, passionate, life-giving love by
seeing those quali!es lived out in our homes.
To understand the connec!on between the Trinity and
Matrimony, go to: www.archkck.org/defendingmarriage.
