Kinder News Teaching and Learning: Sadly today is our last day with Miss Green in Kindergarten. We are all going to miss her so very much, especially KS and Mrs Smith. We wish Miss Green so much happiness and can’t wait to see her back at Merimbula Public School soon. Thank you for being part of our Kindergarten family. Our Kindys are getting so good at saying single sounds and pushing in the sounds. Ask your child or children to show you what we mean by pushing in the sounds. If your child is reading and comes to a ‘b’ or a ‘d’ and isn’t quite sure which letter it is, get them to make their bed – not the one in their bedroom but the trick we do with our hands. Thank you so much to everyone for helping us count and write our numbers correctly. It makes such a difference to us at school. Cares or Concerns: We really appreciate all of your support. Please know that we are always here for you and your child and if you ever have any concerns then we are only too happy to help you. Kindy 2014 Orientation Our last Kindy Orientation session is on this Thursday. This time our Kindys come and play with us from 9:30am to 12:15pm. Every Kindy needs to bring their hat, school bag, lunch box and drink bottle to school, as they will be having lunch with us. How super exciting! We can’t wait!

Stage 1 News

We are approaching the end of the school year and can now reflect on some of the programs that have been implemented in Stage 1. It has been extremely pleasing to see the results that have been achieved through the TEN program. All Stage 1 students are developing a variety of skills to assist them with early arithmetic strategies. A special thank you must be extended to Lisa Freedman for all her hard work in developing and guiding us in this program. The students have also been extremely enthusiastic with the Synthetic Phonics and MULTILIT word attack skills program. Their understanding of phonics and phonic awareness is a credit to them. Their reading and spelling skills have improved greatly due to this program, as has their confidence. Kim Peters (our Learning Assistance Support Teacher) has spent many hours modifying this program to suit the needs of our stage. We would like to thank her for her dedication and assistance throughout the year. At our last Stage 1 Assembly we were led by students from 2S. They did an incredible job, especially the dedication to Remembrance Day. They read beautifully and made us feel very proud. Congratulations to Mrs Smith and the students! This week 1Y would like to share their thoughts about two special students in their class. Jayda has shown kindness and care towards her peers by trying to help resolve friendship issues. Thank you Jayda for being such a thoughtful person.
