game for GSL, hit a three-pointer to start the secondhalf.

However, from there, thegame belonged to the Hub-men as Jordan built its lead toover 20 points at 49-28 lessthan two minutes into the half.

“Luke did everything hecould to keep us in thatgame,” DeCorsey said. “Jor-dan played great defense andwe didn’t execute well. Justnever really got our gamegoing.”

Unlike the sectional openeragainst St. Peter, there was tobe no valiant comeback thistime around.

Jordan kept GSL at arm’slength as the Panthers shotjust 29 percent from the fieldin the eventual 18-point de-feat.

Guard Tyler Ehrke and cen-ter Jacob Litzau each scoredsix points in their last gamewith the Panthers. Junior for-ward Kyle Christensen scoredeight points.

DeCorsey said the lossstings at this point, but it doesnot tarnish the team’s effortsin 2016-17.

“We had a good season, avery special season,” he said.

“A lot of people thought we’dwin seven or eight games. This team wouldn’t settle forthat. The guys stepped up as a

group and accomplished morethan many people thoughtthey would. I’m very proud ofthem.”

got the lead down to seven.”While NYA spent much of

the second half in foul trou-ble, it was GSL that sufferedthe big blow after guardMcKenna Monahan fouledout on a mid-court chargingcall with just over five min-utes to play.

She finished with 10points, five rebounds andthree steals.

From there, Maddie Mona-han took over the lion’s shareof the scoring duties as shefinished out the final minutesof her high school career.

The senior sank her final

shot attempt – a three-pointer– to give her 31 points on thenight and 2,189 total pointsas a Panther.

The final horn soundedeight seconds later, bringingdown the curtain on NYA’snine-point win.

Maddie Monahan also tal-lied six rebounds, three as-sists and two steals on thenight.

She finishes her time withGSL as the team’s all-timeleader in points, assists (472)and steals (452).

“It’s been one heck of aride,” Jeff Monahan said of

his eldest daughter. “She’sbeen solid every night. We’regoing to miss her.”

As for the Panthers, thesquad finished the seasonwith a 17-12 record overalland was the subsection run-ner-up for the second time inthe past three seasons.

“These kids were great thisyear,” Jeff Monahan said.“They worked hard and gaveit everything they had. Weweren’t able to win twogames in Mankato, but over-all I thought we did very wellthis season.”

One Man

In 2014, author Boris Johnson wrote a book entitled, “The Churchill Factor: How One Man Made History”. In his book, Johnson makesthe cause that our present world would be a very different place had it not been for the presence of one solitary man – WinstonChurchill, Prime Minister of Great Britain during World War II.

Johnson portrays this scenario. It is May of 1940. Churchill has just become Prime Minister. The war is going very badly for Britain. They are outmanned and outgunned and their allies in Europe are collapsing. The United States is in no position to help. Churchill meetswith his cabinet to decide whether to cut a deal with Hitler or to fight. In that meeting, the one man, Churchill, convinced them to fight.

Winston Churchill may have been irreplaceable, however, the issue in his time was small in comparison to what lay in the balance at anoth-er time – a time was when all of humanity was lost in a darkness of its own making. It was not the oppression of one man or of one nation. Itwas the darkness of sin–yours and mine. Such darkness meant a pointless, miserable experience, separated from the goodness of God. Suchdarkness also meant the reality of eternal Death. And there was not a thing anyone could do to stop it.

Except for one man, who was more than a man. He was the very Son of God who chose to walk among us as a human being. On our be-half, Jesus Christ lived the perfect life that the holy God demands. Then, in our place, Jesus took upon himself all of the punishment that allof sinful humanity deserved. And at the cross he paid the price in full. That one man–the God-man, Jesus –that one man changed everything. Our rescue is complete. Forgiveness is ours. Now, through faith in him, the darkness is gone.

Romans 5:19 “For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.”

Ephesians 1:7 “In him (Christ) we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
