But when the routines are all complete then practices work around current skills and adding in new ones.” The 14-member squad has two seniors – captains Erica Hecksel and Shawna Goettl – and a bevy of returning girls from last season. By Tom Carothers Sports Editor Expectations are tempered for this season’s Glencoe-Sil- ver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team, but while numbers are a bit down with approximately 25 wrestlers at the upper levels, there’s still good reason for optimism concerning this year’s Pan- thers. “We’re down a bit number- wise, but it’s a real good group of kids,” coach Lance Wurm said. “They work real hard.” Seniors Peyton Sell and Kole Polzin co-captain this year’s unit. Three other sen- iors – Dalton Kosek, Tanner Chmielewski and Michael Meyer – rank among the grapplers that the Panthers will be counting on this win- ter. Paul Lemke, Cody Rae and Zach Voelz are among the key returning underclass- men. “We don’t have many jun- iors and sophomores,” Wurm said. “We’re very young and there are a lot of light weights, especially with the younger guys.” The goals are modest, at least as the season begins this Saturday with the Don Hall Invitational at GSL, but Wurm looks for the team to improve as the 2016-17 cam- paign progresses. “We’re as ready as we can be,” Wurm said. “We’ll see what we’ve got. I want to see our guys build off what they know and make it better so they can keep improving for the end of the year.” Conference wins may be tough to come by for GSL/LP, with the Wright County Conference boasting a number of top teams. How- ever, Wurm said that he hopes the team builds toward being at its best come the “second season.” “We wrestle a tough sched- ule and it is tough to have lofty expectations,” he said. “I’d like ot see us just keep improving and I’d like to see us get another section win.” Reinforcements are on the way, with the youth numbers around 80 between the GSL and Lester Prairie programs. Newcomers to the varsity and junior varsity squads will find many opportunities for the taking. “Guys at younger weights are going to have a lot of op- portunities,” Wurm said. “We’re looking for our younger guys to grow and mature; they are the future and there is a lot of them.” Not that this season is a lost cause. Far from it. Wurm looks around the wrestling room and sees a team he likes and looks forward to working with this season. “I’d like to see us be com- petitive. We have enough guys to fill all the weights as long as we stay healthy and keep learning,” he said. “I’d like to have the seniors go off on a good note.” Following Saturday’s sea- son opener, the Panthers are on the road for a pair of trian- gualrs and an invitational, but return home for a WCC dou- ble dual meet featuring Das- sel-Cokato, Mound Westonka and Watertown-Mayer on Thursday, Dec. 15. We are a People who Wait

“For the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.” Matt. 24:44

It may be our wish that time would move slower in these days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. They can easily rushby as our list of things to do become long. We feel busy. We feel time short.

There is teaching in the Bible which addresses the temptation to be distracted. I think about that when our lives becomebusy. In place of seeing ourselves as busy people wishing time would slow down, we could instead see ourselves as a waitingpeople who have time before the big event. When you’re busy, you hardly think of yourself as waiting. Waiting however fo-cuses our attention; busyness divides our attention.

If we are a people who wait, we see ourselves as looking beyond the list of things to do the one who is most important, the“reason for the season”, the Christ. When we wait, we organize our daily lives based on that for which we wait. Think of apregnancy. The woman may be busy with many things, but the coming birth organizes the woman’s calendar and life.

So if you are a Christian, I want to suggest to you that you not a busy person, though that may be true, but a waiting person. And as a waiting person, you organize your days with your Lord in mind. Then, prayer and worship have less of a chance ofbeing pushed to the side because there are too many other things to do.

This weekly message is contributed by the following concerned citizens and businesses who urge you to attend the church of your choice. To be added to this page, contact us at 320-864-5518.
