- Each essay topic will only have 1ST prize, so there will be 5 1st prize winners. - The 5 winners will all receive a cash prize of £100, a certificate and an SU hoodie.

Vice-President Education AwardCity Students’ Union Vice-President Education Award is a competition to give City students the opportunity to develop their skills and abilities outside of their academic studies and to find creative means to tackle the theme of the year.

The essay is judged by the following criteria:

coherent style of writing use of a wide range of sources demonstrate a creative argument

Rules for the Award

1. Each year, the Union’s elected Vice-President Education may wish to create a competition of their choice, to offer to all students of City, University of London.

2. The competition could have a central topic which must be open to all students of City, University of London and not be completely aligned to a certain discipline offered at City.

3. The Vice-President Education could seek sponsorship and/or prizes from relevant organisation(s). The organisation(s) should be vetted by the Union, if necessary.

4. The competition should be launched and completed within City’s academic calendar year.

5. The Vice-President Education should create clear submission and judging guidelines for the competition each year and this should be communicated clearly alongside the launch of the competition.

6. If the competition involves written submissions, all submissions should be subject to checks via turnitin to prevent plagiarism. Sources used must be cited.

7. The Vice-President Education should form a Judging Panel for the competition. The panel should be chaired by

the Vice-President Education and they must cast the deciding vote in any ties.

8. The Judging Panel must (in addition to the Chair) at least have: one member of the City Students’ Union Executive Committee, one City, University of London staff member (academic or professional) and one City Students’ Union staff member. It is advised to have academic staff that work in related fields of the theme. The panel may also include a relevant industry representative.

9. The Judging Panel should receive all submissions at least 3 working days prior to the meeting and may decide to award the winners.

10. The Vice-President Education must announce and present the Award(s) at the relevant ceremony of the same year. Academic Impact Awards or the Carrot Awards would be appropri

Format: Essay – Up to 1500 words

Format: - Essay up to 1500 words essay- A student can only submit one essay- Students may submit essays for the topic of their choice, regardless of which school they are from. It will be

known that the 5 schools are sponsoring the cash prizes, but the individual school names will not be revealed while promoting essay topics, so that students feel that they can write for any one of the 5 topics.

Judging Panel:- 5 judging panels will be put together to decide

on the winners. The composition of the panel will be: VP Education (chair), 1 student representative, 1 ADE, 1 Academic staff
