Weekly Theme: How do animals help people?

*I can read high frequency sight words/WORD WALL WORDS: ‘blue, help, from, little, get, use ’

*I can read words with short o (box, top, from, stop, mop, cop, hop, …)

*I can read words with digraphs (ship, shop, whale, three, chair, phone..)

*I can identify the subject of a sentence (what/who are we talking about?) and the predicate (what does it do?) .

*I can write/read/identify words with the plural ‘s’ (1 cat=2 cats, 1 hat=2 hats and tell if that ending ‘s’ is an ‘s’ or ‘z’ sound.

**I can identify how many phoneme segments I hear.

*I can identify rhyming words.

**I can identify classify animals into categories: reptile, mammal, birds….) and write about given animals.

*I can add numbers to 10 and soon 20.

**I can identify the parts in a number bond to 10.

*I can write a complete paragraph of three to four sentences on a topic.

**I can identify the plot of a story (and review the characters and setting of given stories).

Words Their Way (spelling)Please remember that we sort and

work on our “SPELLING”/Words Their Way lists each night. The parent check sheet will guide you. Do the top side the 1st week and the reverse side the 2nd week. Our test is EVERY OTHER

WEEK.

We have groups working on 3 levels so far this year.

. Next test will be FRIDAY, Sept. 28th. This is our 3rd sort list sent home. Please practice every couple of nights.

Social Studies

We begin to classify animals into animal categories: reptiles, mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, insects) .

Ask your child tell you an animal in each category and have them give you a characteristic of that classification group.

Math We will continue to work on adding numbers to 20. We will sometimes do this with words problems and sometimes do this just in simple addition sentences. We will also be able to tell if two addition sentences are equal (have the same answer). Refer to the Engage New York website Module 1 lessons 17-21….. for hints on strategies used.

PICTURE DAY IS WEDNESDAY. Picture envelopes were sent home. If you want individual pictures, you must have this envelope (with money enclosed) in your child’s hand tomorrow. Class pics will be in the Spring.
