Yi-wen Evans Double bassist Yi-wen Evans is currently the Master Teacher of the Virginia Tech String Project and an Orchestra Director for the Roanoke City Public Schools. She received a M.A. degree in Music Education from Virginia Tech and a B.A. degree in Music from Indiana University, Bloomington. She has studied double bass with distinguished bassists Nico Abondolo, Lawrence Hurst, Christopher Roberts, Donovan Earl Stokes, Alan Weinstein, and has performed in master classes by James Van Demark and Robert Oppelt. Her teaching philosophy has been profoundly influenced by Vernon Burnsed, “Music education develops emotional well being and intellectual growth. It makes children happier and smarter.” Evans enjoys working with children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Evans is originally from Taiwan, where she was a member of the Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra and Kaohsiung City Chinese Orchestra for several years. Evans has also performed with New River Valley Symphony Orchestra, Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, Opera Roanoke and works actively in many chamber music ensembles.

Double bassist Yi-wen Evans is currently the Master Teacher of the Virginia Tech String Project and an Orchestra Director for the Roanoke City Public Schools.
