The WordGod speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song.

Prayer of the Day All: O God, you resist those who are proud and give grace to those who are humble. our Savior and Lord. Amen.

First Reading Isaiah 40: 10-11See, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.

Leader: Word of God, Word of Life. All: Thanks be to God

Gospel Acclamation

P: Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth. All: Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,We worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,You take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us.You are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,In the glory of God the Father. Amen

Gospel Reading Luke 18:9-14 9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, O Christ.

Message Pastor Carole Lundell

Response to The Word: Creed And Confession

P: In Christ, you have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. All: We believe in him and are marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit.

(Ephesians 1:13-14)

P: Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith. All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell.* On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

P: Build yourselves up on your most holy faith; All: pray in the Holy Spirit. (Jude 20)

Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

All are Welcome to the Share in this MealAs the prophets of old knew, so may we also know: When we live by the Spirit, we will inherit the

kingdom of God. The Spirit of love and forgiveness grows on the tree of life. This Spirit is available to all who seek it. Eat of this fruit, for it is the body of Christ, given for you.
