Definitions:

1. Pronouns- A word that is one of the traditional parts of speech that takes the place of a noun, noun phrase, or noun clause. Adjective: pronominal. A pronoun can function as a subject, object, or complement in a sentence. Unlike nouns, pronouns rarely allow modification. It can function by itself as a noun phrase and that refers either to the participants in the discourse (e.g., I, you) or to someone or something mentioned elsewhere in the discourse (e.g., she, it, this).

2. Nouns and numbers – In linguistics, grammatical number is a grammatical category of nouns, pronouns, and adjective and verb agreement that expresses count distinctions (such as "one", "two", or "three or more". In many languages, including English, the number categories are singular and plural. Some languages also have a dual number or other arrangements. Numbers are often used before nouns to tell you exactly how many people or things there are. Numbers are adjectives, too. They tell us how many people, animals, or things there are. Sometimes they are called adjectives of quantity.

3. Mass nouns – A noun such as advice, bread, knowledge, luck, spaghetti, and work that names things that in English cannot usually be counted. A mass noun also known as a non-count noun is generally used only in the singular. Many abstract nouns are uncountable, but not all uncountable nouns are abstract.

Mass noun is denoting something that cannot be counted. For example a substance or quality, in English usually a noun that lacks a plural in ordinary usage and is not used with the indefinite article, e.g., luggage, china, happiness. Contrasted with count noun.

4. Count nouns – A noun that refers to an object or idea that can form a plural or occur in a noun phrase with an indefinite article or with numerals. Contrast with mass noun or non-count noun. Most common nouns in English are countable--that is, they have both singular and plural forms. Many nouns have both countable and non-countable uses, such as the countable "dozen eggs" and the non-countable "egg on his face

5. Possessive form of noun - a word derived from a noun and expressing possession of a thing. A possessive noun shows ownership (having or owning). Possessive nouns are formed by adding an apostrophe and "s" or only an apostrophe.

Examples are John's car or the car belongs to John it is not Mark's. Mark is Johns' brother.

The possessive noun is also used to refer to restaurants, churches, shops and colleges combined with the job title or name of the owner.

Examples are the doctor's, the dentist's, the grocer's or St. Saviour's or Smith's

Common expressions such as Sunday's newspaper or the water's edge also use this type of noun.

As this semester progressed, I was assigned to my program to take ENGL 245, English grammar at Turabo University. At first I didn’t know what to expect from this class, I thought it would be easy being that I am fluent but it had its challenges. As mentioned before prior to this class I had some knowledge on grammar although I have to admit I automatically practices most of the grammar rules and I apply them to my everyday life. Also, I must say that my understanding in English grammar class grew and has been enrich. My benefits on student work using English grammar became clearer; my work has definitely reflected that I have become better. The assignments that had to be performed during class were fun and interesting and challenging. Having to do an Acrostic poem it’s as easy when it’s based on nouns and other terms.

As this class is getting to its end I am assigned to create an online portfolio including all my tasks from each workshop. Upon reviewing all my work that I have performed before or during class I can say that English Grammar is not easy but once you learn the basics I believe that anyone can learn the language, and how to write correctly. I know I still have a lot to learn but I am very satisfied with what was done during this class. The information that was discussed during the workshops well be an asset not only for professional use but in my daily tasks as well. We live in a world that continues to change and with that.

It was jammed and familys kept arriving in bunch's until some people ended up sitting on box's and benches . The waitresses went crazy keeping up with the order's , especially with kids ordering from the childrens' menu. When it came time to pay the bill, they couldn't find Agnes's purse, and she had collected all the money. They had a lot of laughes about washing all those dish's until Uncle Antony found his baby girl, Eutrusca, curled up under his chair, sound asleep, using Agneses' bag for a pillow. Eutrusca hadn't waited for her grandpas long after-dinner speech to put her to sleep.

Student Journal Work shop four

Workshop four was very interesting since we had a lot of work to get done. One of the assignments for today was to present an oral presentation on ESL common errors. My teammates and I choose to talk about the misuse of articles. This particular assignment was very interesting because I learn many things. Also, I understood why people in general make so many mistakes when using articles or any other type of form writing. It was actually a very cool task and I definitely enjoyed preparing are power point presentation with my group. I believe each of us work very hard to complete our assignments. As for the oral I feel quite confidante that we did well. We prepared are self’s and study our information the best that we could.

On the other hand, the other oral reports that were presented as well were also very interesting and informative. They seem to be prepared as well. Although most of the terms discussed in class our thing that I automatically do, it is never enough. I love to learn as much as I can. This class has definitely been a big help for me and as a teacher. I will be able to pass on all this information to others and that’s what makes me happy.

Reflect on My scores

Well based on my scores from the pretest and comparing them to now I can say that the task has been a bit easier since we discussed the important terms on English Grammar. I must say these types of test are a bit tricky if you don’t have the proper knowledge to complete these them. At first I didn’t really understand what had to be done and it was very confusing. Although I haven’t really caught up on theses quizzes being that they are on the module and are very hard to complete in word I have tried my best to finish and understand the purpose of these test. I believe that I have done better than the first time there for I can say that the class has accomplished its objective. However, I do think that they need to update the module being that some tasks were harder than others. In the end, I have understood most of the terms tested in this class. Bottom of Form
