BEFORE REMOVING THE OLD TRANSMISSION

You MUST have a scanner and scan the vehicle for any codes. All codes MUST be fixed BEFORE installing the new transmission.

MANDATORY INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTSThe cooling system on this vehicle MUST be replaced. The plate cooler in this vehicle cannot be properly flushed and is a non-serviceable component which must be replaced with new. This aftermarket replacement from Tru Cool is the perfect size to replace the original cooler in most vehicles.

Moveras Part Numbers Affected:

Transmission:Subject:

Issue Date:

HondaShift solenoidsOctober 2016

Technical Bulletin 417 Honda - All

Symptom:Erratic Shifting Cause:The solenoids used on this transmission have keyed and color coded connectors, but the solenoids will bolt into either port of the transmission. This will cause application of the wrong component when commanded. Correction:Verify the solenoid is in the proper location. See photo below

Verify proper shifter cable adjustment:

• Disconnect the cable from the transmission• Set the transmission to park and attempt to turn the wheels. If the

wheels DO NOT turn then you are in park.• Now rotate the linkage two detents (clicks) in the opposite

direction of park (this verifies you are in neutral).

• With the shifter in neutral the cable end should line up the manual shaft on the transmission.

Now have an assistant select neutral with the shift lever hold steady pressure

upward

Adjusting the range sensor

1. Loosen the 2 bolts which hold the range sensor to the case. The Inner part is keyed to the manual shaft and rotates when gear selection is made. The outer body which bolts to the transmission case is adjustable. Place the transmission shifter in neutral and have an assistant rotate the sensor till the “N” is lit up on the instrument cluster.

2. Tighten the bolts when aligned. 3. Move the shift lever back and forth and recheck to insure that the indicator is still

aligned. Repeat if necessary.

*Note the shaft that the range sensor slides on to is supposed to have drag (similar to checking gap on a spark plug). If you cannot get the indicator on the dash to stay lit it may be necessary to contact Techsupport for instruction.

seconds in each, check for good engagements4. With the transmission at normal operating temperature 150 - 170°F and the engine

off, check and adjust the transmission fluid level, and check for any leaks. If fluid is needed, add fluid in increments of ½qt until the correct level is achieved (fluid should be in the cross-hatched area of the fluid level indicator).

Poor Shift Quality After OverhaulThe following can have a major effect on shift quality:Fluid type, steel plate finish, and clutch materialEngine performance Adaptive learn: Make sure there are no DTC’s ,including engine codes.Relearn Procedure1. Start the engine and bring the transmission fluid temperature up tonormal operating temperature of at least 104F°.2. Turn the engine off and clear the codes.3. Disconnect the battery. With both battery cables disconnected, touch themtogether, then turn on the headlights and press the brake pedal. Turn offlights, release the brake pedal, and reconnect battery.4. Start the vehicle and let it idle until the cooling fan comes on.5. As soon as the fan turns off let it idle in Park for one minute with the brakeapplied and all electrical accessories off.6. Move the gear selector to the Drive position and let it idle for one minutewith the brake applied and all electrical accessories off.7. Road test the vehicle (do not drive with the wheels off of the ground).Accelerate lightly to 37 mph without exceeding 2400 rpm, thenlet it coast for five seconds (lift throttle).8. Drive the vehicle at light throttle, automatically upshifting 1-2, 2-3, 3-4and let it coast to a stop. Repeat this procedure four times.9. Drive above 37 mph for five minutes.

Rescan the vehicle. If codes are present, compare these to the original codes. Use a scan tool to erase the codes and re-road test the vehicle.
