The purpose of the School Travel Plan

A School Travel Plan (STP) sets out how our school will promote safer, active and sustainable travel to and from school, with the main emphasis being on reducing the number of children being driven to and from school.

All schools are expected to have an up to date STP and will be required as a planning requirement

 

This travel plan has been prepared to:-

Keep our children fit and healthy and safe on the way to and from school Support Devon County Council’s commitment in reducing our reliance on cars

Help the environment by reducing congestion, air and noise pollution Educate the school children and parents on the health benefits of walking and sustainable travel and

the various sustainable travel options

wide pavements for cycling.

Bus Buses 4, 4A, 4B. Bus stop is ‘St Martin’s Primary School’.

Train Nearest train station is Cranbrook. The station is 0.4miles away from the school.

An increase in walking by 5.9 % since initial engagement

16.2% pupils cycle to school on a weekly basis, 48.8% walk to school, 52% never drive, 86.7% would like to travel actively if they could.

83.7% pupils have a bike.

concerns you might have about your child’s progress or general well-being. Ensure that the website provides up to date information relating to policies,

curriculum and other general school matters. The school will keep you informed on a termly basis about your child’s progress. If

there are any concerns the school will be pro-active in contacting you. Ensure that teaching staff keep up to date on important educational developments

and initiatives.Parents/carers will:-

Ensure that their child attends school regularly, is punctual and that absences are properly notified by contacting the school office before the start of school.

Sign up to Class Dojo, Tapestry, Bug Club (Phase 1) and My Maths in order to receive communication and to support their child with reading.

Ensure that their child is in school and is ready to learn by 8:30am and is collected promptly at the end of the day.

Make arrangements with the school by signing the necessary permission slips if their child has permission to go home on their own.

Ensure children who cycle, skateboard or scooter to school wear a safety helmet. Children must dismount at the school gate.

Make arrangements for older children to walk to and from school; this can be done in partnership with the school.

Support and actively promote the school’s aims, policies and procedures. Read with their child every day and support their child with his/her homework and

wherever possible actively facilitate opportunities for home learning. Read regularly with their child. Reading with your child is the most beneficial way in

which you can support their learning. Ensure that the office has up to date medical and contact details and provide

updates as necessary. Ensure their child goes to bed at a reasonable time in preparation for the following

school day. Attend Parents’ Evenings, workshops and discussions about their child’s well-being

and progress at school. Ensure that children wear named school uniform and have their named PE kit in

school every day. Parents also need to ensure children bring suitable clothes for forest school or other pre-planned activities.

Ensure they familiarise themselves with information provided by the school.

Children will:-

Come to school enthusiastic and ready to learn. Always remember to be polite and thoughtful towards others. Make the most of their time in school and help other children to do the same. Complete the home learning set. Respect their own and everybody else's right to enjoy school. Wear safety helmets if they ride their bikes, scooters or skateboards to school.

Children will dismount at the school gates. Strive to be the best they can be!
