Course Rationale: Academic Success provides students with academic and affective skill development and support for students in order to help them be scholastically successful at East High School and to support them in being on track for graduation through their sophomore year.

Academic Success Classes (ASC) act as an OASIS of support for students. ASC help cultivates:

Organization skillsAffective skills and support Self-advocacy skills and supportInstructional supportSupplemental activities

Classroom Expectations and PoliciesASC is a class. Students are here to learn and practice necessary content and skills.

1. Be Prepared Bring all materials to class everyday (notebook, writing utensil) Complete all assignments on time Please seek additional help from the teacher during office

hours/tutorial if necessary2. Be Prompt

Arrive in class on time. You are responsible for being in class on time. You cannot learn if you

are not here. Absence and / or tardiness should not be a reason you do not succeed.

3. Be Respectful Listen when others are speaking. Use appropriate language. Be courteous to your peers and your teacher. Do your own work. Plagiarism is unacceptable and will result in a zero

on the assignment. Do not use any electronic devices (cell phones, iPods, etc.) during

class. Any electronic devices that are out during class will be confiscated and turned in to the dean’s office.

4. Read. Write. Think. Speak.

Ask questions. Be involved in discussions. Share ideas.
