Citing Images in MLA 7
Digital image: A picture which can be viewed electronically by a computer.
Standard MLA Citation of an Image Requires:
1. Owner/Artist/Creator. 2. Title of work. (in Italics)3. Digital image. 4. Website Title. (in Italics)5. Website Publisher, 6. Date Month Year Published. 7. Web. 8. Date of Access.
Citation Structure:Last name, first name. Title of Work. Digital Image. Website Title. Website Publisher, Date Month Year Published. Web. Date of Access.
Example:
Borden, E. Black Coffee in the Morning. Digital Image. Pexels.com. Pexels.com, 15 May 2015. Web. 3 March 2018.
Word 2016
Word 2016 uses MLA7. The fields do not match up exactly to make a proper citation. You will need to make the following adjustments to make a proper citation for an image.
1. Use Art for Source type 2. Institution field, type: Digital Image3. Publication Title field, type: Website title (in Italics)4. Publisher field, type: Website title5. Medium field, type: Web
Finding Photo Information for Citations
There are web sites that contain photographs that are free to use. Check out these sites and where you can find the appropriate information.

A. Do not cite the search engine where the image is found, but the website of the image the search engine indexes.
B. Determine copyright status – many photos on Google are NOT in the public domain. This image is not free to use.
