JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Development Assistant Department: Development Contract: Permanent, Full time Salary: £21,000 Reporting to: Development Manager DEVELOPMENT AT THE ACADEMY OF ST MARTIN IN THE FIELDS The Academy of St Martin in the Fields is one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras, with an enthusiasm for fresh interpretations of classical music. Founded by Sir Neville Marriner we are now led artistically by American, virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell. We invest significantly so that our unique interpretations of the classical repertoire can be experienced and enjoyed by as many people as possible. We aim to engage with a wide and diverse range of people of all ages and backgrounds through our live concerts, educational work and broadcasting partnerships. We have a turnover of more than £2.8 million a year and we need to raise in excess of £500,000 each Season from private sources in order to present over 100 concerts in the UK and around the world as well as to deliver our learning and participation programme of dynamic, inspiring and participatory music making projects. We do not receive core public funding from the government. As the Academy approaches the end of six decades of thrilling audiences we have launched Sound Future - a three year, £2.5 million fundraising campaign in order to ensure that the Academy will continue to flourish both artistically and financially well into the future. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Development department for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to join the existing team. This post will be responsible for working across all areas of fundraising, including Individuals, Corporates, Trusts and Foundations and Events.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Assist the Director of Development and Development Manager Contribute to and assist with the implementation of the Academy’s fundraising strategy in

order to support the orchestra Administrate the ASMF membership schemes, managing enrolment and renewals, delivering

benefits, events and newsletters. Create positive relationships with existing supporters ensuring they receive outstanding

stewardship and excellent customer care Respond to requests for information from potential supporters and sponsors

Creating content for supporters’ newsletters, working closely with the Marketing Manager Ensure appropriate supporters’ accreditation on website, print and other material; work

closely with the Development Manager and Marketing Manager to ensure a consistent and well-presented message on financial need and opportunities for support.

In collaboration with the Development Manager, research and prepare an annual programme of applications to smaller trusts and foundations.

Assist with the organisation of cultivation and fundraising events to deliver first class stewardship of donors.

Keep accurate records and produce reports through the fundraising database Raiser’s Edge.

Principal Duties include:

Processing donations and preparing acknowledgement letters and other correspondence Timely and accurate provision of all donor benefits to existing donors Researching potential major donors, corporate supporters and trusts Assisting with funding applications and reports for trusts and foundations Researching the viability of new fundraising initiatives and sources Keeping donor records up to date with all communications on the database Day to day management of Raisers Edge Assisting with the preparation of Gift Aid claims Keeping mailing lists updated and accurate for communications Coordinating and help produce content & design for donor communications including

newsletters Ensuring consistency of message across printed materials and online Assist in the preparation of agendas and meeting notes for our Development Board

meetings Preparing information for and attending meetings with donors, partners & patrons Coordinating guest lists, preparing materials and other duties as assigned for fundraising

events Attending networking events as required Other duties as assigned by the Head of Development/Development Manager

Person Specification

Experience & Qualifications Educated to degree level or equivalent. General administration experience Excellent writing skills Some experience working in, or being involved with, the arts sector

Office Skills Exceptional attention to detail and a passion for organising Experience in using CRM databases, in particular Raiser’s Edge Efficiency in online research Proficiency in MS Office programmes, particularly Word and Excel

Communication Excellent verbal and written communication skills Confidence in communicating with people from a wide range of social, cultural and

ethnic communities
